Can't wait! I'm finishing Fire Touched now... I love the series so much I'm probably going to start over before 10 comes out next year. :)
So do I. Not that I'm obsessing or anything (hiding the digital clock that set to countdown til the next book comes out.) Nope, not me, no obsessing at all. :o)

I just got caught up with Fire Touched and now have to wait along with everyone else. And it stinks! Come on March 7th!
So, I found that Patricia Briggs has posted a couple of snippets for Silence Fallen. Enjoy!http://www.patriciabriggs.com/books/S...

If you have a NetGalley account, you can request an advance copy. I got one a few weeks ago, and the book is great. If you're a "professional reader," a librarian, bookseller, book blogger, reviewer, etc., you can create a NetGalley account and request advance copies.
Sorry to sound like a commercial, but I enjoy having early access and wanted to share.
Oh gosh, I'm not any of those things. Just an avid reader since illness has taken away a lot of my previous pastimes. But that's really awesome that you can get advance copies. And I'm extra excited to hear the book is great! All the more to look forward to!
I'm pretty sure reviewing on Goodreads makes you a reviewer in their eyes. It's worth looking into. Another one is Edelweiss, but I'm not sure what their criteria is for creating an account. Whatever you decide to do, the new one is a winner.

That is really cool. I may have to look into becoming a reviewer/book blogger >_>
I'm not a "professional" reader but I've received books from NetGalley. Some of which I was really excited for and some were just to review so I could increase my rating. I've never gotten a Patricia Briggs book, they always reject me, but I keep asking. lol The worst they can do is tell me no and I wait and buy it anyway. In the past month, I've requested 3 books from the site and I actually received one so you never know. Its worth a shot! Good luck!
I was wondering if you were on this thread, Nikki. I was going to mention you, because I remember when we were talking about NetGalley and you getting an account based on being a reviewer on Goodreads. I didn't know they turned you down for the Briggs books, though, the meanies. I got turned down for Uprooted when it was coming out but have had good luck otherwise.
It is completely random. I was given arcs for some best sellers that I didn't think I'd get and then been rejected for unheard of authors, titles. :shrugs: I just feel like it can't hurt to ask. I've requested, like, 3 of Patricia Briggs' books and been shot down every time. At this point, I'm just hoping for a pity arc. lol
Spoilers!!! (sort of!!) MATT SMITH!!!! Oh my gosh! I thought it was a little odd we were getting his point of view but Oh My Gosh!!
I felt so bad for him when Adam et al arrived in Milan and he was so scared, but Matt!!! you wily old wolf, you, *affectionate grin*
Ok, I need to start reading and stop fondling the Nook, right? I was reading Double Star for the 15th time when midnight rolled around and decided I'd finish it off before starting Mercy. And now, I'm just fondling my Nook, aware of the treat that is in store. (Just kidding, I started it 45 minutes ago, got 3 pages into it and then the phone rang to tell me that my antibiotics were ready so I had to just fondle while my hubby drove me to the drug store.)But now, time to enjoy myself and let the antibiotics work on this infection. Yay for good books to read while sick.

Brooke wrote: "Very true I can't wait to reread it!!"Same! :D
Patricia Briggs has said (I think!) that she won't write a book from Bran's point of view because that would ruin the mystery around him, but Undercover Bran is pretty much the next best thing!

I was at an event with her last night and she did say that. She mentioned that we wouldn't like Bran very much if we knew more of him.

Yes, I thought it was very professional of her to go ahead with all the signings etc - she must be an incredibly strong woman.
She sounds lovely, no idea why I didn't think to search before, but it looks like some of her interviews have been put on youtube. Thank you for putting me onto it :)

This has been a fabulous, and completely different kind of series - very sad to see it end."She did mention that she would appreciate it if no one mentioned her husband or give condolences, that she really couldn't handle it. She had journals that she passed around for people to write in, that she said that she planned to read when she got back home and could be alone and read them. I thought it odd at first, but the more that I think about it I think it was a good thing to do for her. It allowed her to focus on her work, yet acknowledge that her fans wanted to comfort her too.

I wonder if there's an online journal for the same purpose? I know a few people who all enjoyed reading Mike's blog posts - he had a fantastic sense of humour - and polished haircuts have become a running joke between us (there's a hilarious post all about how a good haircut is all you need to succeed in business, which I recommend to everyone)
Also, Not sure where the above quote about Etched in Bone comes from - I've already read it! (right after Silence Fallen actually :p ) I'm currently reading Kit Rocha's Ashwin, and Into the Fire by Jeanienne Frost is next

I'm not sure about the on-line thing, but it wouldn't surprise me. Mike's blogs were good. I keep checking hoping that someone else will be taking them over.
Well, in twitter they posted a mail direction to receive letters giving condolonce.. Not sure for how long that option is abailable. It was here:

It was a great book, but Mercy didn't talk or mention Stephan at the end of the book. Miss their friendship from the early books.
That was my reaction as well. Patricia Briggs always writes great books. But the one thing I missed in this one was the relationship between the characters. Mercy mostly interacted with new characters we aren't likely to see much of again, and the characters we know and love were either absent from the book entirely, or had little to no contact with Mercy, which diminished things a little for me.
katwiththehat wrote: "That was my reaction as well. Patricia Briggs always writes great books. But the one thing I missed in this one was the relationship between the characters. In the Silence Fallen Mercy didn't learn much about the new characters or made friendships. "It will be just 3 days, until Adam arrives ". The bond mate not working in the distance is strange and I thought we would learn more about the connection with stephan. Since Mercy doesn't understand and neither us ;). But I did like to see Adam in Italy and Coyote lol
I loved the Adam. And especially the Adam and undercover Bran. But I really missed Adam/Mercy and Mercy and her relationships with all the people she loves. Her joking with Zee and Tad. Her relationship with Jesse. The rest of the pack. There was so much vampire in this book which means there probably won't be in the next one, and we saw almost no her and Stephan.
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I didn't like this book much compared the the rest in the series. The fact that Mercy is alone pretty much through the entire book takes away a lot of the funny, heartwarming moments that we got from earlier books. There is little romance between Adam and her, no stepdaughter and stepmom moments and very little scenes with the pack members. And the fact that Zee isn't in it hurts my heart a little bit (Love him!). We instead get a bunch of new characters, which would be fine if they had a bit more personality. Briggs is usually very good at that part, but I felt that she fell through on that in this book. It was not all bad of course. I love the twist ending (no spoilers here. You guys who has finished the book knows what I'm talking about ;). What I love the most is when Adam finally reunites with Mercy again. Big romance girl here!
I feel a bit bad writing this about Briggs work considering what's happened. Just so you all now, I'm a big fan of this author and will continue reading every book she publishes until the end!
No, MiraJane, I kind of felt the same way. It definitely will not be one of the Mercy books I reread time and time again like Fire Touched or Night Broken. And I will continue the series for sure, too. I think I was sad for the same reason as you, being a huge Zee/Tad fan and them not being in it at all. I like the vampires, too, but the relationship with her step-family with Jesse/Aiden, and Zee/Tad sort of acting like another step-family in a way, and the pack just making everything that much more fun... I didn't feel like the political intrigue of the new characters, even though it was interesting, really made up for it in my book. Not that it didn't have its cool moments, too. But I hope the next Mercy book has them at home and with the pack/our favorite characters again.
It's nice to know I'm not the only one who's a bit disappointed. I was getting worried I was getting to picky when it comes to books :P. Knowing what an awesome author Briggs is, I'm sure her next book will be heaven. Because, you know, Charles and Anna. Need I say more? ^^
I agree with Veronica about needing the "getting out and away from the regular stuff" in long running series. One thing that I am taking from this (and this might be minor spoiler to those who haven't finished the book yet, so I'm going to Spoiler it is) (view spoiler) Or did the rest of you who have finished the book not get this idea?

She has new ideals and other perspective of her independence.

In Dead Heat there is a dynamic with the family that Anna will meet. How she interact with them and learn to know their personalities and history in betwenn the hunt of a misterious fae;)

"We have, in case we haven't announced it, a real title for the next book: Silence Fallen. So I can quit calling it Mercy goes to Europe, LOL. I've been going over our photos of European trips, trying to make sure I get things right."
