This novel is based on how student protesters during this time would live in small villages to learn to live like the farmers. Jinda, the protagonist, becomes aware of the issues facing the Thai people when four university students come and live in her village. This book is filled with realistic accounts of what it was like to live in these villages, the challenges the people faced, and what happened during the student demonstrations and protests during this time. I liked this novel but I wish I would have been able to see more than one perspective, like that of an university student. This novel would be good for anyone who wants to learn more about Asia or wants to learn about something that is rarely mentioned.
