Alexa (AlexaNC) And it's nominations time again!!!

What would you like to read in the upcoming months? We need nominations for both fiction and non-fiction books. Other than that the field's wide open.

So tell us, what have you been longing to read and discuss?!!!

Whee! I came up with three of each (but I don't think there's a quantity required, so please no one feel pressured to do it this way!). I might actually have some more ideas, but will need to look at my shelves at home tonight. These are the ones I know I already own. :)

Fiction:
Woman on the Edge of Time, Marge Piercy
The Memoirs of a Survivor, Doris Lessing
The Salt Eaters, Toni Cade Bambara

Non-fiction:
Writing a Woman's Life, Carolyn G. Heilbrun
The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir
A Jury of Her Peers: American Women Writers from Anne Bradstreet to Annie Proulx, Elaine Showalter

Anita (anitafajitapitareada) Great noms El! I'd do well with a limit so I'll follow your example and stop at 3 each.

Fiction:
Valley of the Dolls, by Jacqueline Susann
The Witch's Daughter, by Paula Brackston
As We Are Now, by May Sarton

Non-fiction:
I Know I Am, But What Are You?, by Samantha Bee
Pink Sari Revolution: A Tale of Women and Power in India, by Amana Fontanella-Khan
Brothel: Mustang Ranch and Its Women, by Alexa Albert

Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity by Julia Serano
The Invisible Orientation: An Introduction to Asexuality by Julie Sondra Decker

Fiction:
For Today I Am a Boy by Kim Fu
A Brother's Price by Wen Spencer
Nevada by Imogen Binnie
Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El-Saadawi

Well, you can certainly see where my interests lie lately! Can't wait to see what we end up reading!

Hah, yeah, it's a longer one. But I'm so disappointed in myself that after all these years I still haven't read such an important book in women's studies, I can't help but to keep nominating it. :)

Perhaps Book Of The Year rather than Book Of The Month? ;-)

glad to hear it! I'm trying to cast my feminist reading net far and wide and realizing I'm severely lacking any elder focused reads. They seem to be popping up more and more on my recommendations though.

I'm with you, El! I feel exactly the same way about not having read this book. If it doesn't go through I'll totally buddy read it with you if you want :)

message 17: by Alexa (new)

Alexa (AlexaNC) Looking at the poll results, a good case can be made for taking the top six finishers in each poll as our reads for the next six months. What does everybody think?
