This is a list from Charlie Jane Anders of io9. The ones on the list I have read are all fantastic (in both senses of the word), so I'm assuming the rest are all pretty amazing as well.

This list looks amazing, Whitney!!! I think I've only read the stories by Saunders and Liu. Which ones have you read? Top picks of those?

Also the Saunders and Liu, as well as the Asimov, Jackson, Bradbury, Delany, Lem, Chiang, and Lu. The Jackson and Bradbury were long enough ago that I have a pretty hazy memory of them. I don't think I can narrow down to a couple top picks, it's a pretty great list. I'm reading the Beagle story now, I plan to get to all of these.

Ted Chiang is one of those amazing, lessor known writers. Probably because he only writes short stories, and of those only about one a year it seems.

I've heard of most of the others (read some other things by Asimov, Bradbury, and Delany), but never heard of Chiang.

OK, quitting my job now and going on a reading sabbatical! (I wish.)
