It's a book about children surviving abuse.
The forward reads:
Today is Christmas Eve. Today is my birthday. Today I am fifteen. Today I buried my parents in the backyard.
Neither of them were beloved.
So right away the abusive parents do die, and it's about coming to terms with the aftermath.
Trigger warnings for abuse of a minor, including sexual abuse. It's mostly talked about in the past tense and barely talked about at all. You won't be reading about anybody present tense going through that.
