I finished An Anthropologist on Mars this week. Sacks writing, knowledge, and curiosity helps me see the human personality in each "case," see myself though people who would seem to be so different, and gain a new perspective on the spectrum of possibilities inherent in our brains.I am most amazed by the story of the surgeon with Tourette's. His strangeness doesn't seem so strange from the inside. I can relate to some of this, as I can to some of autism. The vision stories are fascinating for understanding how the brain interprets visual information and how that interpretation impacts our whole "outlook."
