Annice (asevett) | 37 comments I just started Untwine by Edwidge Danticat. She is one of my favorite authors and after reading most of her adult books, I've decided to try her Young Adult novel. The novel is about two twin sisters who must revisit their past in order to understand one another and those around them after a tragic accident. I highly recommend anything by her if you are looking for a good book to read.

We'll be discussing it at 6:30 PM on August 2 at the Main New Hanover County Library 201 Chestnut St Wilmington on the 3rd floor in the Cape Fear Room.
The Downtown Readers meet the first Tuesday of each month.

Charlene | 21 comments I just finished The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson, author of Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. It captures the English countryside before the outbreak of WWI. Lovely writing, colorful characters, slower plotline. Overall good read. I am mesmerized by the audiobook The Guest Room by Chris Bohjalian.

Carla (writeon1913) I finished reading and loved Ashley Hope Perez's Out of Darkness which won the 2016 Printz Honor Award. I had the privilege of meeting and hearing her speak at the 2016 ALA Conference. Her book is young adult historical fiction novel set in 1937 dealing with a school explosion in Texas. She captures the voices and thoughts of many characters of Hispanic and African American descent well.

Annice (asevett) | 37 comments I am in the middle of The Widow by Fiona Barton. It is a psychological thriller that switches between narrators and characters. It has sucked me in and I can't wait to finish this twisted tale to find out what happens.
