First Into Action A Dramatic Personal Account of Life in the SBS by Duncan Falconer

Zero Six Bravo The Explosive True Story of How 60 Special Forces Survived Against an Iraqi Army of 100,000 by Damien Lewis

The following two books can be considered the companion pieces of each other. They focus on the Special Boat Service, Britain's maritime special forces unit. Before JFK built the Navy SEALS, these guys like their hated land based rivals in the SAS were pioneering modern special forces methods.

The first book is a rather old but very good look into the unit by a former SBS soldier. Having seen combat in Northern Ireland he explores how the SBS operates and what the unit is like, along with its very heated inter-service rivalry.

The second book is about an operation the SBS was involved in and demonstrates the SBS in action. Its the unit's finest hour. Several of their members were stuck behind enemy lines during the invasion of Iraq. They had 100000 of Saddam's finest sent after them. And they managed to hold their own.
