It best describes this novella of a thriller.
Michael is a hot mess. The deaths of his wife and child affect him still as if it happened the day before.
Which leads me to note the interesting choice the author made in order in which scenes occurred with relation to the timeline. In my experience, this is a hit or miss tactic. In this case, I think it worked well. In fact, it's rather easy to keep track because instead of having to add/subtract dates, the chapters are headed up like so "6 years ago".
Back to Michael. He makes a desperate bargain with the Devil and becomes an anti-hero. Or did he? That's why people should take the time to read it. Because many things are not what they seem.
Thanks to Shervin for the free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Keep on banging that typewriter.
