Jennifer Pope (jenjunum) | 902 comments I'm categorizing this as entertainment because it was a book, made into a movie, made back into a book and then modernized. The stated premise is also around a Bachelor-esque TV show.

I'm not a Pride and Prejudice superfan though I do like it. This book was enjoyable and entertaining but that's about it. After I finished, I read another review that said they kept reading just to see how each part in the original was transferred to the modern version, I would definitely agree with that. This book definitely could not stand on its own without Pride and Prejudice. It had a good start, I kind of liked how the characters were set up on their own but then it just became a little too much. In the end each Bennett had to have some "quirk" to set them apart. Bonus points for being controversial. All seemed like the author only had a superficial understanding off. All were bordering on insensitive and offensive--and that's outside Mrs. Bennett's comments which were over the top racist and terrible.

And the ending felt strange and unconnected. The author chose to finish the book with a whole chapter wrapping up the Bennett sister the novel spent the least amount of time with preceding that. My only guess is that the Mary character is Curtis and she's describing her personal experience.
