Colton Chynoweth | 2 comments I would like to nominate Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. I loved Gone Girl and she has a very twisted mind. I have heard great things about this novel and would love to read it in a group discussion. I pulled this quote straight from her website.

To say this is a terrific debut novel is really too mild. I haven’t read such a relentlessly creepy family saga since John Farris’s All Heads Turn as the Hunt Goes By, and that was thirty years ago, give or take. Sharp Objects isn’t one of those scare-and-retreat books; its effect is cumulative. I found myself dreading the last thirty pages or so but was helpless to stop turning them. Then, after the lights were out, the story just stayed there in my head, coiled and hissing, like a snake in a cave. An admirably nasty piece of work, elevated by sharp writing and sharper insights.

STEPHEN KING

Betsy Hetzel | 469 comments Colton, I agree that SHARP OBJECTS would make a great read and discussion. Funny, I just started reading it a few days ago and it is chilling. I would certainly vote for it.

I'm not very tech. savvy to get links for King recommendations, but I have been trying to get Lee Child, Reacher book on our nomination list for awhile.

I will nominate Killing Floor, Lee Child, and all that I could find is:
King updated his Best Books read between '01 -'09 and
#13 he listed: Lee Child, Reacher novels, start w.
KILLING FLOOR.

The Underground Railroad

"THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD, by Colson Whitehead: Terrific novel of escape, sacrifice, and redemption. Reminded me a bit of Larry McMurtry."

CoffeeBook Chick (coffeeandabookchick) | 2 comments I STRONGLY agree. Sharp Objects is a fast read, but it is wildly impressive and so very dark. A great selection to read with a group!

I agree, Nick. I've read it and gave it 5 stars. Some of my Goodreads friends got me "hooked" on Crouch's "Wayward Pines" TV series , which I loved, and I wanted to see what kind of novelist he is; he's good !
