I'm just waiting for Gehna since she is the one who suggested it! Hopefully we can start it tomorrow!
I'm a slacker and haven't started yet but I will soon I hope! I have the edition available for free through goodreads, not sure what it is lol :)
I'm almost done with chapter 1...I've been reading it in 10 second increments between calls at work today haha...Here's what I think so far:When I first started I didn't like the layout and writing, but after a couple paragraphs I changed my mind. The man sounds like my grandma, a complete hypochondriac! I couldn't help but laugh while reading the first chapter! And I'm at work while I'm reading it so I keep getting funny looks haha I really liked the doctor's prescription for the man and the chemist's response to it. I also found it amusing that he said his friend George 'fancies' illness but isn't, while he seems to do the same :) The men's attitudes about needing rest just makes me smile, I find it funny to think about how lazy they sound to me and the excuses that they make, and then I think about the people around me and how I see them do the same thing every day. I'm a people-watcher so the view points in the story are already making me sit and think about the questions I would ask them if they were to come into a clinic I worked at when I finish school. I also have to try to stop myself from rolling my eyes haha :) I also loved the explanation of a week-long boat trip. I personally love going on boat trips of any length, but I know a lot of my friends who cannot stand going on the water! They pretty much explain the exact same way! I also love train rides! Both are very pleasant for catching up on my reading and relaxing :)
I also like the doctor's prescription and chemist response but my favourite is the authour' s experience with piano . You will soon reach there...
Hi there, I have reached the 10th chapter. So far the narrator's trip is interesting with old memories and new worries , I really liked the portion where he talks about his cousin and the lock , its very nice.
I don't like the way the chapters are started. It's really weird to me and I don't like the way it reads. I'm having a hard time getting into this book. I like it enough, but it's not really captivating like some of the other stuff I've been reading lately. Sorry I'm getting through it so slowly! So I'm working my way through chapter 2 today while I'm at work and I love the bit about putting up the tent! Again, this makes me think of my own experiences with camping! It also reminds me why I always let whoever I'm with when I go camping put the tent up by themselves!
I also love his dreams! It makes me think that even though it's a different style of writing than I'm used to, a little older, I do really like the story so far.
I'm glad I'm not alone...I appreciate it because it's an older story, but I'm not really enjoying it...that's why I'm only on chapter 3 lol
Yes I also enjoyed the memories but im not liking the actual storyNow on 15th chapter really liked the part about swans
