The first chapter was well worth the price of admission: Everyone wants to be happy, but few know how. And when we go about it in the wrong ways we actually get further from the goal! I often contemplate that looking around me, but find it hard to withhold judgement when I do. I think the main point here is to fully committed once one has chosen right or best direction, and, as he also warns us in this chapter, of the dangers of jumping from one path to another. It is very easy to be led around by appearances or appetites.

It clarified more to me what Stoics are aiming for and what a good life is to a Stoic. It also helped me understand virtue as opposed to trying to get pleasure or something like that.
