Black and White question

The book that I'm reading is Black and White this book displays a story about two high school athletes who are vey talented. Both Characters display a strong friendship and care for another. And they watch each others back no matter what. The one who plays the black kid in the book his name is Eddie and the White kid name is Marcus . They both are on their way to the top in far as basketball wise Eddie has a big time scholarship to St. Johns but he and his friend Marcus made a huge mistake. Instead of working for what they wanted far as job wise they did the complete opposite . And made a horrible mistake because they had mugged and stuck up people for money they earned their share with a huge amount as far as 3,000 in cash. But they both got caught in the long run and both got held in trial. At the wrong time to because their team is now in the playoffs. But I hope both of them can focus on school and continue with their great talents.

Question: If you were in their shoes would you work for what you need or get it the wrong way like Eddie and his friend ?
