By the way, feel free to invite friends into this group! I invited several friends from grad school as well as several librarians in my network who would love YA books. So, the more the merrier!
Hey Christina...I have not yet read this book but it sounds amazing...I am a huge lover of the fantasy genre so this one should be right up my alley...I think the cover is gorgeous! Looking forward to reading it!
Hi :) I read this last month, in 4 days! I loved Wylan in this, that was my favourite character. I'll wait for the next book in the series though I felt there was a lot of filler in here, however, I do want to find out what happens, perhaps in the new year!
If you love fantasy Theresa, I bet you'll like Six of Crows . It has lovable characters and a heist- that's where it had me sold! haha. And the cover for the second book is just as cool. It's a duology.
<3 Wylan is so cute! I'm waiting for the audiobook for the second one to arrive at my library before I dig in. Crooked Kingdom just came out a few months ago and since it's the last in the duology, I think I can wait lol. I still love that I was surprised with liking this one.

Just put it on my TBR...better yet it is at the library!!! A new author to try in the New Year...thanks for the rec!
Hello! I'm late to the party!! I listened to the Six of Crows audiobook and liked but didn't *love* it. It may have been the voices, I felt like they sounded a bit too... mature. I did start listening to Crooked Kingdom though, since I clearly cannot help myself. I'll let you know how it goes.
Hey Lilly! I wanted to click like to your post, but then remembered this isn't Facebook lol.
I can see that, about the audiobook. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the plot and setting. I have Crooked Kingdom on my Christmas list while I wait for the audio to arrive at my library... :)

A brief mention...
I saw a discussion post from yesterday by some book review .com person (bot?) and wanted to let you know I deleted their post and removed that user from this group. My first concern was spam-bait for my group members and second I felt their promotion was rude. (I mean, come on, "dick@..." whatever is really your email?)
This group isn't for unsolicited promotion of products. If I see posting like that- some ".com" or other- I will consider you harassing the members of my group, flag your post, and remove you from the group.
To be clear, I don't mind users sharing other Goodreads groups they are in, or sharing your reviews in the discussions. By all means, broaden the discussion :) And I definitely don't mind group members posting book bloggers or bookstagram accounts (there's even a discussion post for that!) But I do mind when ".com" product/promotions invade our bookchat space.
So, just wanted to let everyone know what was up. And for anyone who saw the post (I'm sorry I didn't catch it sooner) and
if you thought it was weird- I agree, it was weird. But they're gone now.

I just wanted to give a big shout of thanks to the members of our group. We're at 111 people and I'm super stoked to talk books with y'all in the new year! The Riveted & Popsugar Challenges are up and there's SO much I already want to read. So a big thank you to everyone that wants to talk about books with me :)

Check in! How's everyone's April? Tons of stuff came out this Spring, anyone reading anything good? Any book recs(as if we didn't all have large TBRs LOL)?
I actually decided not to participate in any challenges this month or for the rest of the year, going to tackle my TBR instead of finding books that fit terms - I'm so excited - I did recently read Furiously Happy and loved it so much, not so much YA but it was SO GOOD. I'm currently finishing up the raven cycle books, think I might have waited too long between book 2 and 3 for me to truly enjoy it. I think I want to try vicious .. maybe finish a few other series (darker shade of magic)

I do the challenges loosely. If it fits, great, if it doesn't then that's okay too. I don't think I've ever 100% done the Popsugar challenge and have accepted that I probably won't. I use the challenge as a place to post what I've read, rather than rehash a review. My TBR is never going to shrink, I've accepted that too.
Furiously Happy was great! It's adult, but it's one I think a lot of adults can get use from. For me, The Raven Cycle feels too hyped at this point. I tried the audios but didn't like them. I think fall feels like a good time to try them, but have too much else to read.
I LOVE anything V.E. Schwab does. The ADSOM series is my favourite, ever. Not to overhype it, but it was the book that got me to read anything she writes. I reread Vicious this past weekend and forgot how much I love Victor Vale. I just started the sequel for that, Vengeful, and am pretty excited.
I also just started Sadie on audiobook and it's filling my True Crime podcast craving. Full narration production!

I read first ADSOM as well as book 2 I think - I just have to complete it - I'm the worst at finishing a series Sadie is one of my most anticipated - I'm reading it next month and i can't wait!
hence my continuing raven cycle - I kinda just wanna finish it - I have a list of all the series I want to complete/reread hoping I can get to that next year I mainly do challenges monthly - so a set set of things to red per month (usually 10) plus bonuses for points, etc. - I started to feel burnt out and have been reading less quality more quantity so I want to change that!

Series are tricky. Maybe it's because I do so much reading, but I find that a year later (when the next one comes out) I either have to reread or do a recap for the previous book (as, even if I like it, I can never remember all the tiny details.) Maybe I should start making a super spoilery section in my Goodreads reviews? Sometimes I don't mind rereads, they're quicker the second time, but it is really annoying since there's so many new things I want to read.
That's an interesting way to do the challenges. I can see why you'd get burnt out! I treat the Popsugar challenge, for example, as a year-long thing.
Sadie so far is great! Defintiely finish ADSOM, it had a satisfying ending (which some series don't do!)

HAHA that's good to know - yeah I agree about series I have to keep track of ones I read that I loved or I won't remember to read next in series at all, it's so silly - I recently went through all books and wrote down series so it was a painstaking processI'm going to do popsugar next year instead of the other challenges, or just quarterly ones.

Instead of writing down the series, have you considered making your own Goodreads lists? All published book in the series are already listed on here, so you could just make a personal list for series? Food for thought, as I hate to see so much time spent not reading lol.
Riveted felt harder, but shorter to complete. Popsugar is okay, but the Advanced ones get me.

Hmm I never did think of that - I thought of making a shelf - but then to remember them all is hard still I think I'd just put the first book in a series and tag it "series to continue" or something - I've now started adding the ones I want to continue to my TBR shelf if they have the next one posted already - I feel like goodreads should anticipate my needs and email next in series as they come out lol that would be so much more convenient

lol. They sometimes do that, like if they interview the author. I've gotten emails about V.E. Schwab before. I know Barnes & Noble does that, but most of that generates off of you buying the first one. Hopefully that TBR list works!

Hi Im Grady. I'm new to Goodreads and these groups but would love to talk to people about books. Friend me if you'd like to stay in touch better! Look forward to sharing with y'all
Welcome Grady! Make sure to check out the Discussion Boards threads for the book(s) of the month chat.
And hello new members! I just noticed we're at 155, that's really exciting! I hope you're all enjoying the book picks. I just added a few new ones for something new I'm trying going into 2019 :)
Hey everyone I'm Grady. This is a cool group because I know a lot of adults who read YA and won't admit to it especially if they're guys lol. Still some great lit in the genre so glad this group is embracing it. I'lm looking forward to reading the follow YA My Summer (with Robots) by Marsh Myers and the graphic novel version of Neil Gaiman The Graveyard Book, Volume 1. (I read the actual book a couple of years ago). If you wanna be GR friend hit me up too. Thanks G

I just finished Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I highly recommend it on audiobook, especially if you're like me and have a hard time diving into fantasy books. Since this is the first book (and meant as an icebreaker) here are some of my thoughts:
Q- Who was your favourite character? I think I loved the voice actor for Jesper best. Everyone in the recording was fantastic, but he stood out as a bit more humourous to me. Description-wise, I think Kaz is an excellent character.
Q- Thoughts on the cover? Initially, this is what drew me in, It was so cool looking and I had no idea how it connected to the story. Having read it, we can see that the crow/raven is a rather prominent symbol for our group of heroes. Are they heroes? Their intentions are good at least.
Q- Favourite/least favourite scene? I loved the ship scene between Inej and Nina. It was so adorable. This book also had me constantly shipping everyone. Before the Jesper/Wylan plot got going, I could have shipped Nina and Jesper or Nina and Inej. It was pretty funny.
Q- This book came up on a recent Buzzfeed article on mental illness in YA. You can read that here: https://www.buzzfeed.com/annaborges/b...
Did this stand out to you? If you're a librarian/bookseller, would you recommend this to a teen with that in mind? In other words, if the teen needed that resource. I felt that this was very seamlessly done. And I don't think it's just one character either. I'd say that Kaz and Matthias' PTSD shows up the most, but I'm sure a case could be made for Jesper's gambling addition or Inej's relationship with the peacock lady.
