My favorite new book of 2016 was probably Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire, which is why I've picked it for our March 2017 book club discussion.

My favorite new to me book of 2016 was either China Mountain Zhang by Maureen F. McHugh or The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. Chambers's book just left me with this warm, happy feeling, while I was very impressed with how well McHugh's 1992 novel held up.

Charleen (charleenlynette) Really enjoyed a few 2016 releases, including The Fireman and The Mothers, but not sure any of them count as a new favorite.

Best new-to-me book was Station Eleven, the only one I rated 5 stars all year.

I also have to give an honorable mention to The Woman in White. Just finished it today, and while I don't usually appreciate the classics, this one was just so enjoyable. (Maybe my reading tastes are finally maturing.)

I just looked up the book description, and "Count Fosco, who has a taste for white mice, vanilla bonbons, and poison" is surprisingly intriguing.

Many of our staff members have shared their favorite books of 2016. Again, they didn’t have to be published this year, although some were. Check out our reviews here:
