Great guess! It really matches my description, but it was published in 2013 and I read this book in 2001-02. However, I will be reading this book as it sounds interesting. Thanks for the response!
I read these years ago so I'm not 100% if they fit your description but: Dragon Rider
The Secret of Dragonhome
Hatching Magic
Hi Courtney! Thanks for the suggestions but I don't think those are it!! I think the book I read is not that popular. It was an old book at a library. I wish I could still go to that library and look for it but I moved away :'( It's just one of those books whose storyline has stuck with me through the years and I would like to reread it.
I know the boy in this series raises a dragon in secret, but read it way too many years ago to recall much.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I'm sorry guys none of these are it, but thanks so much for the comments I have checked out each of these and and I will be reading them anyway!
The Dragon Circle by Stephen Krensky? It's a boy who finds the dragon, but the other kids that get involved are his brothers and sisters.
Can you remember anything about what happens between this young girl and the dragon? I know of an old book i read as a child about a young girl who meets a dragon while on holiday in Cornwall but it's a children's book and not YA.
How about Dragon's Egg by Sarah L. Thompson, although it's childrens not YA.I also remember reading some books from the juvenile fiction section by one author, all about dragons in a classic fantasy setting, one of which is about a girl finding and nurturing a dragon's egg but I can't remember the title. It was an older book (80s or 90s)
Dragon's Blood possibly? Or one of the later novels in that series? I will admit that this is the only one that I've read, but I believe that it was planned as the first in a trilogy, so thought I'd suggest it.

I can't remember too much about what happened between the girl and the dragon. I only remember that the setting was not fantasy, but the real world. I wish I could remember more. I have looked at every dragon book listed here and also online and haven't found it!
Take a look at DragonSpell. This series is very close to what you were talking about, however I remember that the setting is close to modern day, however is still mystical.
Well it's children's genre and not YA but it fits the other things you can remember so check it's not this one. There are a few books in the series.Green Smoke
Voices of Dragons for Ciara's clickable (above)We have a list, now: Dragon Egg https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

I am looking for a YA fantasy about a dragon. In this book a young girl is visiting or perhaps has moved to a new town. While out exploring the town the girl finds a cave and comes across a dragon or maybe a dragon egg. She later meets a boy and I think he has something to do with the dragon, but I honestly can't remember sorry. The setting of this story seems to be a world very like our own, so it's not like Eragon or anything. I read this book in the early 2000s at a library in Phoenix. I hope my description is clear enough and that I followed the rules.
Thx.
