I read Northanger Abbey. I've been a big Austen fan since freshman year of high school when watching You've Got Mail finally convinced me to read Pride and Prejudice through. I know I've read all her works at least once. Northanger Abbey is one I haven't read since the initial reading in high school. Now knowing that it's a bit of a satire of the gothic novel and having a little more feel for what a gothic novel is increased the enjoyment factor in reading this book again.
Every time I read Jane Austen I am surprised yet again by how well written they are. She really is amazing. But I've also appreciated the recent movie adaptations. Like Shakespeare, some of Austen can't be fully appreciated until you've seen the setting these wonderful stories take place, the beautiful countryside, the homes and mansions, the clothing. I don't know if the Jane Austen craze will eventually pass but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.
