Ken B | 6812 comments We've all heard of the Six Degrees of Separation theory in which anyone on earth can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than 5 intermediaries.

Most famously, we have all heard of the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon where any person on earth can be linked to Kevin Bacon.

Example: Connect OJ Simpson to Kevin Bacon:

1. O.J. Simpson was in "The Naked Gun 33⅓"
2. Olympia Dukakis was in "The Naked Gun 33⅓"
3. Olympia Dukakis was in "Picture Perfect" with Kevin Bacon....WINNER!

How about we play a horror version of this game in which we attempt to link a contemporary actor to the horror legend Bela Lugosi. Lets not limit ourselves to 5 intermediaries. The person closing the link connecting the chosen actor to Bela Lugosi gets to choose the next actor to connect to Bela Lugosi.

Have fun!

I'll start. Out of respect for the original, let's connect Kevin Bacon to Bela Lugosi.

1. Kevin Bacon played Chip Diller in Animal House

Squire (srboone) | 1050 comments This could be a painful process. I think perhaps each poster could provide some direction for the next:

1.Kevin Bacon was in Animal House with Karen Allen who was in...

2. Raiders of the Lost Ark with ...

But as Bacon is only three degrees from Legosi:

Karen Allen was in Scrooged with Bill Murray who was in...

Ed Wood with Martin Landau who played Bela Lugosi.

Can that be considered a connection? Other than playing the role of the man there is no personal connection.

Squire (srboone) | 1050 comments Absolutely! That's how the game is played (too many drunken nights spent partying with theater majors in college). Good job!

Perhaps you could just throw out a name and the next poster could post all the connections (with a limit of 6). Otherwise people could lose sight of the goal and another poster could spin off in a different direction.

Let's try:

Stephen King (remember, he's a writer AND an actor--and director)

Ken B | 6812 comments I think that's going to be too easy then. All you have to do is get back to Bill Murray or Johnny Depp and you've got Bela.

How about we rename the game Six degrees of Horror and tie together two horror figures, literary or otherwise.

I think this will be a fun game. We just need to figure out the rules.

Ideas?

J. Gowin Kevin has a point. Perhaps it would be a good idea to disallow shared roles. Otherwise you could connect dozens of different actors by citing Dracula or Frankenstein.

Squire (srboone) | 1050 comments You've got a point. Even with Kevin Bacon, though, there are connections that get reused over and over again. The whole joke behind th Kevin Bacon game was that he's been in so many movies, EVERYONE has a connection to him. Legosi might be too limiting of a figure, When another connection gets made, that one will be reused. The game would be to find a new one (I can think of two more connections to Legosi and modern films, both based on directors of Legosi films.)

Marie | 4049 comments Maybe just do horror movie connections, but don't focus on just one person. There are horror movies galore out there and there is a boatload of actors/actresses somehow connected to horror movies throughout the last 70 years. There will probably be some stars that will be repeated, but there are other stars that can be connected one way or another.

I'm with you Marie. I'll rewrite the rules including all of the suggestions above and do a reboot here in a bit.
