The Bone Season Series by Samantha Shannon – A Read Along discussion

This thread is to catch any extra information that we think may be helpful in your readalong. In your books are maps and charts (in the front) and glossaries (in the back) that will be great in refreshing the memories of the pros and keeping the newbies on track. We're also working on some new things that will be posted at a later date. As they become available, I'll edit this post with links for easy gathering.

True confession, I only knew about two of the animated songs on the test, from the older disney movies, because apparently I'm old!

So many Syndicate members! I better watch my back. ;-) However, I was one of the Rephaim so maybe you better watch yours, bwahahaha.

I'm a Medium, and I'm Zeke. The spice question in the Seals quiz was a bit "unfair", because you can find all the spices in my kitchen (and running out of garlic or of cinnamon is a complete catastrophe)! I also had a very hard time on the "pet peeves" question, people trying to talk to me while I'm reading, and being stuck behind slow walkers drive me equally insane (got stuck behind a slow walker this morning, grr!).

For the voyant quiz I got a medium, I'm a Rephaim according to the factions, and for the Seals I got Nick! I'm the mom friend (of course).

Niiiice, nice.

I'm an augur (gonna go chill with Cutmouth and The Wicked Lady!) and as a Seven Seal, I, too, am Nick. Yay mom friends!

Given the comparisons to Twilight some people made at the beginning of this readalong, this makes me giggle. (I KNOW NOTHING, I PROMISE.)

Oh man that'd be sick if Paige gets to not have to worry about her and Warden's incompatible life spans. But I don't think that's a viable option in the story. Either Paige would have to somehow become immortal, which given the amount of mystery about the general mythos might be possible, but doesn't seem likely. And since it's definitely impossible for Warden to become human I think we are just gonna have to prepare ourselves for the Viking Funeral of the ship.

I don't think it's possible either. Samantha said the same in a tumblr post the other day, which I think is going to make the books very sad but also very interesting. I can't think of any book where something like that happens; boy and girl don't end up together

Liss's reading in book one did indicate that huge changes are on the horizon for Paige, including changes she'd resist, and that death would work in different ways but that could mean a myriad of things. There is also a possibility of Warden becoming mortal (edit: just saw the tumblr post Riannon referred to, apparently Warden's mortality is off the table too). There's also the possibility that they'll be together until Paige dies a natural death, which is its own kind of complicated/sad. Generally I tend to be a romantic (I am/was all about Buffy's vampire loves), I'm going to remain stubbornly optimistic until forced to acknowledge otherwise.
I was surprised to be categorized as a medium, since as a professional musician, I saw myself possibly being a julker or a whisperer (I rather wish I had the ability to play any instrument using spirits!), but I suppose medium makes sense.
