I really do not like the Thorpes. Isabella is super manipulative and her brother is such an ass. I feel like they're fortune-hunting a bit.

I agree! They probably represent a type of people in Austen's world, but she hasn't made them so over-the-top ridiculous as Lady Catherine in P and P. Lady C is so overbearing that she's comical; the Thorpes are just manipulative and potentially harmful.
