What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I'm looking for a book I read as a child or teen, so it would have to have been written in the 80s at the latest, but I suspect it is older than that. The story at least partly revolved around a girl who came to live with her cousins--I think she was orphaned--and the story was told by one of the cousins as they realized how her talent made her different.

I remember a scene where the girl is allowed to play on a very expensive violin. I don't think it was a Stradivarius but it was a similar thing.

Grateful for any ideas!
