Olympia (oly366) | 4 comments I'm all in nothing against goodreads but I miss shelfari.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 286 comments The time to have petitioned for Shelfari's saving was before they dumped it. I'm just adding some realism to your suggestion. Amazon made a business decision, which we all hated, but there's no compelling business reason for them to resurrect the site at this stage.

I will always LOVE and miss Shelfari. The reality is it's now gone forever.

Loveme22 - The Queen of the Night Court | 13 comments Or we can make one on our own not shelfari but kinda tbe same idea

Clara Baker Baldwin (cbbcab) | 10 comments The question is, why did they choose Goodreads over Shelfari? I already belonged to both, so didn't have any of the difficulties some of you did transferring over. I just did both at the same time after finishing a book.

Loveme22 - The Queen of the Night Court | 13 comments I had it to but it is nothing like shelfari

LibraryCin | 196 comments There was a petition before they killed Shelfari, but it didn't do any good, unfortunately. :-(

I think we all miss Shelfari. I miss my pretty shelves and the nested comments.

As others have pointed out, it was a business decision. GR was many times larger than Shelfari in terms of members, and -more importantly - ACTIVE members and active groups. The GR format also was "friendlier" for advertising ... and advertising dollars drive the bus.

BTW ... Many Shelfarians went to Leafmarks ... an independently owned/operated site not affiliated with amazon. That site closed a few months later ... too many new members and the limited staff (1 person or maybe two) just couldn't keep up.

Leafmarks, I believe, started with 2 staff, but one of them left (for GR, I heard), so they were down to only 1 by the time all the shelfarians joined there.

I went to Leafmarks after Shelfari closed and we had a nice little group there but I think I was on it less than a year before they folded it. I also went to Library Thing and I enjoy that group and this one.

Loveme22 - The Queen of the Night Court | 13 comments leafmarks was ok but no one was on it

Amber (heartofautumn009) | 7 comments Could never get my books transferred over to leafmarks so never experienced the site.

In regards to the whole shelfari thing, I wish Amazon had at least looked at trying to sell it to someone else to take over. They didn't even bother looking to try to sell it, just demolished it instead. I had so many friends and groups on that site that I wasn't able to get in touch with before it shut down...

nx74defiant | 7 comments Also Goodreads has the name recognition. People are more likely to have heard of Goodreads than Shelfari.

Lesley Moseley | 5 comments I have had almost the opposite experience, once all my books were loaded and I learned 'how to fly' GR. The shortcoming I always found with Shelfari was trying to find people who read and liked the same style books as I do. My local librarians say I am only in the 5% minority of their members. However with GR and the 'compare books' feature, when I rate a book 5 stars (not that often) I can easily find people with similar tastes. I have been thrilled to read their other 5 stars, I would never have heard of.

Loveme22 - The Queen of the Night Court | 13 comments Really missing Shelfari right now so many people have ghosted me. All I want is my shelfari family back I used to roleplay with.
