★★★★☆Like some others, I also had some trouble with some years, 2010 and 2005 being my stand out for difficulty finding something. Also, re-reads, what are those? :-P
Certainly an interesting list to prepare, and one that made me have to make some seriously difficult choices for some years -- there are at least 5 books I want to read that were published in 2007.

Brenda, I know I'm one of those annoying people who ALWAYS has a question, so here goes. Does year of publication mean when a book was first released, i.e., when it was "new", or can it also refer to when the particular edition we have was published? For example, I'm currently reading a 2015 paperback edition of the 2010 bestseller Room (not for this challenge, obviously).
And a couple of recently-published short story collections are of old stories by Charles Dickens and Joyce Carol Oates. Dis Mem Ber and Other Stories of Mystery and Suspense.
And I have a 2014 re-release on NetGalley of The Old Jest: A Novel, which I see was copyrighted in 1979!
I don't want to bend the rules by adding one of them if that defeats the purpose of the challenge. Plenty more fish in the sea!

Good question Patty! I think publication should be of the copy you're holding in your hand - either library, ebook or physical. And if it's a re-release of a 1979 book in 2015, and your copy is the new one - your pub date is 2015.
I'll confer with my fellow mods but I think that would work best :)

That would be great, Brenda! Saves us all tracking down every edition of something. If the mods decide on a policy, you might add that at the top.
Brenda, another question/suggestion. I wondered whether people reading fewer than 16 books could start somewhere other than 2017, as long as they choose their books in sequence? Like 2005 to 2010, for example.Thought it might help some readers of series that haven't had any 2017 updates yet.

Or you could leave it up to people to work out themselves. I'm not sure whether I'll be doing this, but I'm still working out a list at the moment! But I'm going to be going with original publication date, because I can't guarantee which edition I will get when I go to the library.

I have absolutely NO doubt how much you all work on devising these great challenges, Brenda! I noticed someone mention series so thought I'd ask.
Count me in.And just for added difficulty trying to make them all Aus Authors, each author only once and no re-reads... crazy much? (And somehow fit this in my other challenges!)

I'm in, not sure what level yet, but will post books shortly, once Telstra has figure out why our internet vanishes every evening between 6 and 7pm, and doesn't return until the morning...Sigh...
Oh I've been there Leonie. In our case it was an overload problem in the system but it took weeks before they decided it wasn't my modem or computer that was at fault. Eventually they realised it was their problem and it was duly fixed. We did get a nice new modem out of it though.

The tech came today, but in the morning, so of course nothing happened. We have to ring him tomorrow.
The current theory is that the NBN upgrade (?) which is currently ongoing might be locking us out somehow.
We'll see.
