Tyler Bergin DIARY OF A WIMPY KID BOOK REVIEW

Diary of a Wimpy Kid ‘Hard Luck’ was written by Jeff Kinney on 5 November 2013 and is the 8th book out of 10 in the diary of a Wimpy Kid series. The genre of this novel is a diary genre as said in the name. This book is a good all around book for people ages from 10-14 years of age. The novel ‘Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Hard Luck’ is about how Greg Heffley is going through a hard stage in his life. First of all his friend Rowly ditches him because Rowly has met a girl to hang out with and forgets all about Greg. Greg then later goes on to find new friends which he then finds very hard to do until his last option is to go to the weirdest kid in school and try to make friends with him to make him like his old friend Rowly.

Greg later finds a magic 8 ball and he decides that his ideas were not the best decisions so far so he tested to see if it worked and everything started to go in his favour. So far he thought that the magic 8 ball was a good idea to make his decisions while using this 8 ball making him over rely on it and in the big decisions that he needed make didn't go so well for him because it would be faulty from time to time.

Greg later realises that he has family coming over this easter and talks about how his family gets into all trouble and is very annoying and scary as well as not that good at looking after him very well in the past. He talks about how his grandma (Meemaw)had a very expensive ring that she use to wear and had been pasted down for many generations and she then later died but when she died she didn't have it on so no one could find and claim the ring. The Family then got into a huge upset last year and wet crazy for the ring. When Eventually they rocked up to the house everyone was peaceful and seemed like they didn't think about the ring that they lost last year. Towards the end greg gets tired of everyone so he sits in the bathroom for the rest of the day and when Greg finally decided to get out he found out that they started fighting over the ring and The families started trying to find clues to get The ring. They then later find a clue that it could have been in an old plastic easter egg that meemaw (grandma) use to hide for younger kids.

The next week greg goes back to school and finds out that his grades were really bad and he started to decide that it was because of the “magic 8 Ball” so he then through it away and forgot all about it. A few days he go himself sorted and fixed up his grades and got back into the school mojo. He then needed the 8 ball for one last question so he started to look for it at the back of his grandmas house where he thew it away and then he found something that was special to him and realised that the 8 ball gave him some good luck after all the grief it gave him.

This book is a good book that I personally would rate a 8/10 and I highly recommend that people from that ages 10-14 read this book because it can be relatable for some people that have a weird family and are having some tough times. This book is easily the best book in the ‘Diary Of A Wimpy kid’ Series and is always engaging, I read this book in 1 night. This is a simple to read book that is good for all people to read and highly likeable.

Hayden Rowley This novel is a great one and this is a very good blog on it, however I disagree on the age comment as I think it should be 8-12 years reading this novel, because it is a fun book which would entice them to read more. I could not agree with you more in the fact that this can help kids through tough and embarrassing times. I would have to disagree on the fact that this is not the best book in the diary of a wimpy kid series, as I think Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days was the best all round book because it has the biggest age bracket (7-15). This book really gives kids confidence and enjoyment to read more books as it is simple, fun and very engaging with its humour. This novel by Jeff Kinney is 1 in 11 of the series and defiantly deserves one of the top places of the best novel in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Will Savage Tyler, I really enjoyed reading your book review, the detail you went into was incredible as you gave a good description of the book and characters but not too much to give away any spoilers. Throughout reading this review I was excited to get my hands on the book and find out what happened to Greg and all the characters. I like how you explained in great detail about the characters and there main issues but then added small extra information in about what else they had going on, it made this review much easier to understand. By adding how the book is relatable to people in the high school made me want to read it even more as it may give me more of an understanding of the hard luck of high school. I agreed with you in the lucky 8 ball and this part of the book was one of my favourites. The way you gave individual descriptions on the characters made it easy to read and didn't make it too confusing. Altogether I couldn't find any faults in this review, I cant wait to read this book!
