I just read Me Before You (quite liked it btw) and am halfway through After You, so I decided to sit down and watch the movie last night. I was so disappointed. Has anyone else watched it in comparison to the book and felt it was so very rushed? I understand that it can be difficult to fit a lengthy novel into an hour and a half but I just feel like it was missing so much and that if I hadn't read the book first I would of just been utterly confused as to what was going on. I read somewhere that Jojo Moyes did write the screenplay so the lines from the book are present in the movie, and I did appreciate that, but I actually turned it off with 20 minutes left (which I NEVER do btw) and felt so let down by the whole thing.

lol me too, lots of scenes have been cut, i stopped watching the movie too to enjoy the book.the books makes you feel things. ( how loisa felt like while holding will's hands) like you're apart of it.. the movie is just emotionless.
I've made the mistake of finishing the book (which in my opinion was very good) just hours before going to the theater and I was very disapointed. I saw every flaw and every missing plot... so I thought that I'll give the movie a second chance when the book will fade out of my memory a little bit. I've watched it a week ago, over a year after it premiered and the second time around I really liked it. In my opinion treating them as separate things gives each one a chance to shine :)
UHHHHHHH....The movie sucked. okay, not compeltely sucked but honestly, as much as I love Emilia Clarke, her acting in this film was just over-the-top, too exaggerated and so annoying. Idk if that's just me but that is what I felt. Sam Claflin, on the other hand, portrayed a perfect Will. 3 ...All in all, I think the movie wasn't horrible...eh it's debatable. Books, in general, give more feeling/DETAILS than movies anyways. The novel....was simply beautiful and pulled at my heartstrings. Honestly, I can tell you that I actually cried fresh REAL tears at the end when Will died. Gosh, that was the best novel ever bc I have never felt real life feelings whenever I'm reading any other book. "Me Before You" was a spectacular ride...life of Louisa and Will all tumbling together. All their actions and personalities were nice to read about. It felt so real, idk how to explain it! haha
Overall, the book was deffo better then the film IMO.
I really liked the book and I actually enjoyed the film as well. I've come to the point where I don't expect a lot out of a movie, especially one based on a book, because every time I do I'm disappointed in it. When I go see a movie based on a book I just separate the two. I think about them as two completely different stories and usually come out enjoying it. I have a friend that could not stop comparing the movie version of The Martian to the book and he really hated the movie for the changes that it made. Now I actually really enjoyed both (and really didn't mind the changes they made in the movie).
basically i think that the book is much better because it has more details and unlike the movie doesn't skip some parts.i watched the film first and i liked it but i later read the book and got a better perspective of it.
It was a good movie but they rushed everything. It felt like they simply wanted to be done with it. The actors were perfectly casted. I just wish the director would have put more effort in to bringing the true soul of the book in to the movie. As for the music.. by God, the songs were all wrong. They should have chosen a different style, maybe something less "rainbow" like and more gloomy, Lorde could have captured what this was about. It was just too "white."
And the way it all was cut & directed - it made Will look like he was just a liiiittle depressed. They simply let us glance over his suicide attempts but there was so much more to it. The movie wasn't fair on his part; they should have shown more of his lost will and anger.
No me gustó nada la adaptación al cine, me pareció una película simplona y blandita que no logró en ningún momento atraparme como lo hizo la novela.
I loved the book, it was a powerful dialogue between two people. The movie was very limited but I loved it too. I think it’s reminded me of the power of,the book but the actors were well chosen too.The second book was not very memorable at all, but it couldn’t be without the interaction the two main protagonists provided.
I must admit I watched the movie first. I really liked it but like with so many before this I knew if I liked the movie than I would love the book. And so I did. After balling my eyes out I realized this is exactly what a book should be. It made me completely reevaluate my life and the way I live.
Me Before You inspired me. I'd like to think it changed me into a person who lives a little more boldly, who pushes themselves a little farther, and who doesn't settle.
I love the book and the movie too! Took a lot of life lessons of my own. I actually watched it for the second time, like i had never watched it before. Yes, some scenes were missing in the movie, but i think it really tried not to dilute the book. I could see a lot depicted from the book,, and i concluded it was because Jojo wrote for the screen play. The movie brought out Lou's excitement more than the book could have brought it out for me. The movie was perfect to me. The characters really brought the book to life for me.

Totally loved it!
Interestingly I found the second book totoally unmemorable. I think this was due to the strong interactions in book 1. However in a way it was good to see how the author put our lovely main protagonist back together. On the other hand one can ponder what we think would have happened to her later. She was a survivor with a strong philosophy to live and so we can imagine she would have been ok, having learnt so much. The question is — is our imagination better than an authors follow up? Often the sequels are written because the publisher wants another book and so they can lack heart as they have already shared everything in the first book.
I loved the book but hated the movie. I almost fell asleep during the movie and one of my biggest issues was the lack of chemistry between the characters. That said, it is rare that I like a movie after reading the book.
I enjoyed the book, but haven't seen the film. Having read all these comments, I don't think I'll bother seeing it!!
That said, it is very rare that I find a film anywhere near as good as a book!

I loved the book! I couldn't put it down when I picked it up. I didn't really like the movie. The whole time I watched it, I pointed out everything the producers got wrong or forgot lol. I wish producers would stop making films out of books if they're going to butcher the whole thing.
I definitely agree that the book was much better than the movie. I did my best to go into the movie with the idea that the two are separate and I shouldn't compare the movie to the book. With that idea in mind, I don't think the movie was good even if you take the book out of the equation. Then if you do add the book back into the equation, the movie gets even worse.I was really frustrated that the film neglected to discuss Lou's history with the maze. Although it was a very upsetting aspect of the book, it was exceedingly important. It not only was what drove her character or (I should say) fueled her lack of drive and need for a feeling of safety and routine, but it also is one of the catalysts to her and Will becoming closer and having a deeper understanding and respect for one another. Did this bother anyone else? Because it definitely just felt like the movie tried to sweep it under the rug so people wouldn't get uncomfortable as opposed to deal with it head on, thinking it would be better for the movie, but instead it made it so much worse.

I absolutely agree that Emila did a horrible job.
Her acting was over exaggerating . It was as if she was thinking okey i need to be klumsy. She was just trying to hard for tge audience to believe her personality traits.
Which wasnt the case the whole point in Will and Lou relationship dynamics was that they have a different personality from each other . The readers just felt it . It was supposed to go smoothly which it didn't .
I think it would have worked if they had Kira Knightingly or Rachel Adams , Natalie Portman . Anyone of these fab actresses would have done justice to Lou.
I actually think that this book to movie adaptation was a good one, I've seen worse ones. I loved the book Me before you and I also loved After you and now I can't wait for the third book abour Louisa Clarke!!

I was also disappointed in this movie. I have come to realize that the book is always better than the movie. Unless they do a mini-series, there is no way get in all the little things we find important that end up not making it to film. One exception to this is The Green Mile. I thought they did a fantastic job of staying true to the book.

I am 13 and in year 9 and my mum actually recommended that I read the book as I had already seen the film and, now that I have nearly finished the book I was saddened that the film did not include Will's sister. Also that in the film they made Louisa and Treena have this oh so perfect relationship, which we all know was not the case. But do still truly love the whole idea of the book and how it makes me feel.

this is another case where i saw the movie some years ago and only got to the book this month. The images of the movie were in my head but very faintly. I adored the book! i could tell it was better than the movie and after finishing it i felt the urge to watch the movie again but didn't because i felt like it would ruin it for me.From what i remember though, the movie was a quite good compared to others transfer.
I read the book first and I loved the book. I feel that the movie came the closest to depicting what was in book. It didn't feel rushed like I feel most times when movies are made from a book. I was able to connect with the characters on screen. However, definitely book I was literally crying tears on the pages at the end.
Jen wrote: "I just read Me Before You (quite liked it btw) and am halfway through After You, so I decided to sit down and watch the movie last night. I was so disappointed. Has anyone else watched it in compar..."i thought the movie was just like the book. I enjoyed both.
I liked both, although I do have some minor nitpicks about the movie:1. There's no mention of (view spoiler). I thought it needed to be there, because it partly explained why she was "stuck" and unable to move on in life.
2. Her family was much nicer in the movie. That said, I loved Brendan Coyle's performance. He was so sweet. I want him to be my dad now. LOL.
3. Emilia Clarke over-acted a bit -- too much face-scrunching.
But aside from that, I really enjoyed the movie, and I thought Will was well-cast.
The movie was sweeter and I liked the movie more than the book , though. But I guess in depend s on a person . I prefer the movie .
I first watched the movie and right away I read the book. I liked the movie better but probably it is because I saw it first and already was taken by it. In the movie, I felt that will has fallen in love with Louisa but in the book, it didn't feel that way. I expected him to love her better. The movie made me cry but the book didn't. Just my personal feeling.
I loved the film, I loved seeing all of Lou's quirky outfits and they kept a few funny parts in too. But I have to agree they missed out so many key points. They could have built up to the relationship more, it was very rushed. In the book the relationship between them was so precious and Will slowly letting her in was extremely rewarding. I feel the film could have focused on that a lot more. I was also gutted they left out all her Dads jokes, Lou's determination and the fact they didn't show how self obsessed Patrick was made Lou look quite bad.
Shelley wrote: "I loved the film, I loved seeing all of Lou's quirky outfits and they kept a few funny parts in too. But I have to agree they missed out so many key points. The movie wasn't bad, but it doesn't surprise me that it didn't live up to the book.
TBH, I watched the movie when I was in second grade. AND most importantly, I wasn't an English speaker back then. I started reading the book this year, and after a careful reading and "re-watching" the movie I thought I liked the book better. First is that the Louisa in the movie wasn't the kind of Louisa in my mind. That REALLY disturbed me (Quite a lot). Second, it was like the movie is trying to squeeze the stuff I read in three days into 2 hours. That made me feel very uncomfortable. But if it were just a movie, it was good.
I loved the book, and enjoyed the movie. I will say that the movie did leave out some key scenes from the book and I was disappointed at that, but I wouldn't say the movie was bad. The book was definitely better. I did love Emilia Clarke as Louisa though, I thought she fit the part very well.
tbh i liked the book better than the movie. i finished the whole series and want to read more of it. i was a bit skeptical about starting the books. it took a while, but it was worth it for me.
I liked the book better than the movie even though the book infuriated me it was still better than the movie. The book is just more described and you get read and see what goes on in the characters heads.
The book is way better than the movie even though the book infuriates me it's still better. It's more described and we get to read what goes on in the characters minds.
Book was undoubtedly great and movie wasn't upto the expectations. In movie many scenes were cut, many plots were absent and i observed this especially because i read the book before watching the movie.
I have never seen a movie that is better than the book, and this was no exception. The book was a delight to read but the movie was so disappointing.
But according to me read the whole book it's much batter to first watch movie and then you have to read whole book if story is interested or motivational. Urgent Court Marriage in Thane
Court Marriage Registration in Thane
The only movie that I can think of that is better, or at least as good as, the book is The Devil Wears Prada
people here keep saying that the movie was so disappointing and emotionless. but jesus, you just can't put a 400pages long book into a 1h 30 movie. and of course movies are always emotionless, because the characters can't describe what they feel. they have to act like it. it doesn't feel as personal as in the book though
but I get why people here saying that emilia's acting was too much... i loved the character in the book, but in the movie she was just annoying and destroyed some emotional scenes in my opinion. but sam claflin literally killed it!

I think so many books story will becoming movies in future and people will love that all movies if there is strong story. So according to me both things are very important reading books and watching movies.
