Ever noticed how much Sibelius resembles Uncle Fester? There are some good composer lookalikes here http://www.brightcecilia.com/forum/sh...
You can win a CD - chosen by me! - of Martha Argerich and Itzhak Perlman playing Beethoven's 'Kreutzer' Sonata and Franck's Violin and Piano Sonata at brightcecilia.com.
This 1999 CD features two of the world's greatest living musicians. I absolutely love the Franck violin and piano sonata and this is a really gorgeous performance of it.

An interesting debate is going on about why the music of the renaissance should continue to be classified as early music.

A heated discussion is going on about the commercialisation of classical music. Is it a necessary evil - or just evil? Are you a purist or a pragmatist?

It should have gone in the post today, as long as our admin got to the Post Office! It will be with you soon, fear not.
That discussion is getting pretty heated now! I have decided to step away from the keyboard. I have to pull my punches as a co-owner of the site or it's not really fair. But I do feel strongly that computerised music should not masquerade as the 'real thing' any more than artificial ingredients in food should pretend to be natural!

I do - thanks!
I think things have cooled off a bit now. Phew.
Elsewhere on the site, Opera_1 has put up a link to a nice offer for students and under 30s to get cheap English National Opera tickets. Worth a look for those who are young/studious and within reach of London.
We are very careful about weeding out spam but as this benefits young people and students and the ENO are 100 per cent bona fide, it's fine.

Well, this is a really old thread, but after reading just a very small bit of the forum it was linked to, I had to ask if one of the comments was meant to assert that the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra was not good? I think they are amazing!
Just finished "Finding Yourself in the Town of Geniuses." There are over 30 videos to complement the musical geniuses discussed--like Puccini (Pavarotti in La Boheme and Beltran in the whole of Madam Butterfly) and Verdi ( with area from Aida with Jose Cura--absolutely incredible--and the Triumphal March in the Colosseum of Verona) And so much more. Great fantasy and non-fiction combination for the story. I suggest the ebook because you merely click the links to see the video. In the print book you must write the address into the address bar of your computer or tablet.boheme
i just signed up, but i'm not sure what is going on or how i might be able to contribute to the conversation - if conversation is the right word to use with music. i have fairly broad taste: baroque to modern; i prefer chamber music to orchestral and not a big fan of opera. my favorite composers are, well, the obvious ones: Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Shostakovich.

- to complement the group here.
Brightcecilia will be upgraded soon to incorporate more social networking features, such as extended profiles, photo albums, friends, interest groups and so on.
We're hoping to develop the site into a thriving classical music interest site for everyone, from new listeners to accomplished musicians. It will, I hope, become a friendly and useful source of information and discussion with the added advantages of social networking.
I hope you'll drop by!
