Its true I am drawn to WWII backdrop novels, and I try to space them, with at least a few books between them. But this one was unusual, as it took place largely in a traveling circus. The setting added something to the usual stark devastation of this time. As did our two female aerialists. Unlikely rivals and friends, two women with very differing circumstances, strongly protect that which they love, and sacrifice all, to survive the unimaginable. Images that I am left with, include one woman rescuing a baby from a boxcar of unknown babies and children, impossible love interests, and women flying through the air, as if their lives depended on it - and they did. The book was unforgettable!

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I was teetering between 4-5 stars on this one, but it has definitely resonated over time and stayed with me since I read.

I'm impressed with the fresh perspective on WWII (hiding Jews in the circus) since you're right- there are SOOO MANY WWII historical fictions nowadays.
