Trickiegyrl | 28 comments Starletta Duvall series by Judith Smith-Levin. Starletta is a police lieutenant and is dating the coroner who is quite wealthy. There are unfortunately only 4 novels in the series as the author passed away. Paperback is the only medium they are available in.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
Do Not Go Gently by Judith Smith-Levin
The Hoodoo Man (Starletta Duvall Mysteries) by Judith Smith-Levin
Reckless Eyeballin' (Starletta Duvall Mysteries) by Judith Smith-Levin

I love, love, LOVE the Starletta Duvall series too!

Monica **can't read fast enough** (wwwgoodreadscomuser_monlat) | 895 comments Another series that I enjoy is the Detective Elouise Norton Series. They are really good and Rachel Howzell Hall is still writing them. The next one in the series, City of Saviors, actually comes out tomorrow. You do need to read these in order though.

Land of Shadows (Detective Elouise Norton #1) by Rachel Howzell Hall Skies of Ash(Detective Elouise Norton #2) by Rachel Howzell Hall Trail of Echoes (Detective Elouise Norton #3) by Rachel Howzell Hall City of Saviors (Detective Elouise Norton, #4) by Rachel Howzell Hall

You are going to love them. Desiree is this tall, beautiful, confident woman. Mitch is kinda average, but very comfortable in his own skin and totally supportive of her. I like that he isn't this over the top alpha male, yet still a true male, very protective of her.

TinaNoir | 1459 comments - The Starletta Duval books are great and have a nice IR romantic component between Starr and Mitch. So sad she passed before we could get more.

- The Rachel Howzell Hall series is excellent. But as of book 2 (I haven't read 3 yet) there is no romance, IR or otherwise.

- Frankie Y. Bailey's Lizzie Stuart series is a cozy mystery series that features an IR romance between a black female professor and the head of the campus police.

- George Pelecanos' The Night Gardener is a stand alone police procedural where one of the main cops is in an IR marriage (bwwm) and their domestic life and children get good page space in the book.

- Jill Brock's Maggie & Odessa series Pennywise is a cozy mystery that is rather funny. Kinda like a female Gus and Shawn on Psych (or Lucy & Ethel). Odessa does have an IR romance in the course of the book.

- Kyra Davis' Sophie Katz' series Sex, Murder And A Double Latte. Sophie is biracial, half black/half Jewish and her love interest is a Russian

- Barry Lyga's I Hunt Killers series. YA and more thriller than police procedure. But still very good

- The FBI Psychics series The Missing by Shiloh Walker, again more suspense/thriller than mystery but the first two feature IR coupes

- Angela Henry's The Paris Secret is a stand alone mystery/suspense novel featuring an IR romance.

- Haven't read these yet, but the Faye Longchamps mysteries Artifacts feature a biracial heroine who is an archeologist and her Native American boyfriend (later husband).

Danny is a white cop raised in Detroit’s black innercity. In the first book Danny is engaged to a Black woman and I think that's his dating preference. I got distracted by another book so I don't know if they get back together. I think she's studying to be a doctor and her family didn't approve of him.

RJ Arch,

I thought it would be interesting to read because it is from a male writer.
Also, I feel that while IR romance is enjoyable, it doesn't cross-over as much as I would like. When you have IR couples in other types of books like cozies, other crime fiction, general fiction, it picks up other readers. (If I'm making sense.) I would really like to see more IR BWWM couples in other genres as well as more IR romance.

I would love to see more dangerous bad boy IR stories and I don't care if a man writes the story. For me, it has to be a catcher, non-erotic and not in first person. I also have to add, I don't want race to be an issue in the story. Everyone is not against IR relationship. The story must have romance in it. I don't want 5% romance and 95% action. That's not romance in my eyes. Oh and the race pairing doesn't matter, although I read more BWWM stories. I also write them.

True. Not discounting other people's experiences, but I've dated interracially my entire life (in Virginia, no less) and I haven't had any issues. Topic-wise in books, I really enjoy work settings or small town drama.

You're Welcome Tina.☺

I recently discovered that my local library allows patrons to request books for them to purchase and I requested the entire Detective Elouise Norton Series (in eBook format) and they sent me an email confirming the purchases.

RJ Honey Bun Shop Mysteries by M.E. Harmon

I just saw this recommended on another list, and I'm getting ready to binge on this series because it gets very good reviews. It's a cozy mystery series starring an AA sleuth in New York who runs a sweets shop. It appears, judging by the first book, that she dates IR. Caveat is that these are all short novellas, which is why I'm going to tackle the whole bunch and see how it goes.

(You can't tell by the covers that she's AA, but she mentions that she's considering not relaxing her hair and going natural, and her mother wears cornrows, etc. It has a very multicultural cast.)

There are six novellas:

You're welcome. I'm on the third one now.

Having read two, I just want to clarify one thing only because this is a list specifically for IR novels. The author describes some of the characters by skin tone and some not, so I can't exactly tell some of the guys' races. In the first one, which is the longest, she has broken up from a long term relationship which I guess was IR because she is best friends with her ex's sister, and the sister is just described as having long brown hair. The guy she likes in book 2 has blue-gray eyes, but cafe-au-lait skin, so maybe bi-racial? Maybe not.

Anyway, I'm enjoying them a good bit (there are some typos).
