Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments During this month, I will also be reading "Longbourn", a re-telling of Pride and Prejudice from the servants point of view. Which leads me to ask the question, what do you guys think of re-tellings of Austen? love them? hate them? What about the likes are "pride and prejudice and zombies" or "the jane austen book club" etc...

Do you have any re-tellings you would like to recommend to others?

Verena | 10 comments I enjoy relabellings a lot! I think they honor the original stories, even though some of them are REALLY bad.

Longbourn is one of my favorites! That one follows an almost completely different storyline, though. I hope you like it :)

Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments I can't wait to read Longbourn, it's going to be so interesting to read alongside P&P during this re-read, just for the shift in perspective!

I've seen some retellings where the titles just make me cringe! Although I am intrigued by "pride and prejudice and zombies"...

Patty (simplypatty) | 4 comments Yes! I've been looking for some good and genuine re-tellings of P&P. Longbourn is on my TBR list but if anyone knows of others please share!!

Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments I will also be reading "the mysterious death of miss austen" at the same time, where basically a criminology student has theorised that she was poisoned or something (my mate read it and loved it!)

Kathryn (kcash20) | 9 comments I've never read any re-tellings, but I always enjoy novels such as Austenland that focus on a fan of Austen. I find them fun and all too relatable.
I would love to read some true re-tellings, though. If anyone has recommendations I'd be super happy (I'm always happy to add things to my reading list).

Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments the only type of retellings ive read so far is Austenland, so I'm im the same boat as you, Kat!

Patty (simplypatty) | 4 comments Okay I came across one! I've seen this a couple of times and I'm wondering if anyone has read this yet? It came out last month! Or is anyone interesting in buddy reading it before or after P&P? :)

The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet A Novel

This is my first time hearing about it! Is it still on youtube?

message 11: by Andie (new)

Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments yep! its by hank green and pemberly digital. it is what sparked all these classics web series appearing on youtube. Highly recommend it, it is very addictive. It is a modern adaptation but it is obviously full of spoilers ;)

Kathryn (kcash20) | 9 comments So, I have not yet read Longbourn, but the author is going to be at the Jane Austen Festival this month that I plan to go to. She'll only be there one day and I can only go one day. Should I try to go the day she's there, even though I haven't read the book yet?

message 13: by Andie (new)

Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments haha why not?! You'll have to tell us about the festival!

message 14: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (genevieveholpepper) | 7 comments There's a manga version of Pride and Prejudice available on NetGalley at the moment. I love graphic novels but have never actually read any manga but I thought I would give this version of P&P a go. Anyone seen this or had a read already?

message 15: by Andie (new)

Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments ORLY~ I may have to have a mooch at that- I've not looked at the manga books on netgalley cos I never really was much of a manga reader...

Alicia (A Kernel of Nonsense) (akernelofnonsense) | 54 comments Has anyone read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? It's probably my favorite retelling of P&P. Just picture Elizabeth and her sisters slaying zombies while trying to find husbands.

message 17: by Andie (new)

Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments I haven't yet but I really, REALLY want to! It sounds great and I'm not a fan of zombie books haha

Oddly enough, I wasn't really into zombies either. Then I read this book and then The Walking Dead show came out, and suddenly I couldn't get enough.

NE | 16 comments I "inherited" a few books re-telling and/or continuing the story or the lives of the P&P decedents. I'm not sure if any are worth reading, but I'm willing to try. I have Excessively Diverted, An Assembly Such As This, The Darcy Connection & More Letters From Pemberly.

After a short discussion with Andie, I think I may read Longbourn alongside Pride and Prejudice. That book sounds intriguing.

So far, I have no problem with "fan fiction". I am open to other interpretations and "what ifs". ;)

message 20: by Andie (new)

Andie (thebookheap) | 208 comments I've not read any of those! I'll have to add them to my ever growing list! Thanks Noreen :)
