2. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

4. The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin
5. Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jared Diamond
6. Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
7. Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
8. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
9. The Strain by Guillermo del Toro
10. Little Brother by Cory Doctorow
I hope at least one of these sounds okay. Looking forward to your selection.
Saritha, I went to your to-read page and found these books I'd be into reading are:Dweller
Legend of the Book Keeper
Sakshi, I went to your to-read page and found these books I'd be into reading are:
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
The Handmaid's Tale
The Secret Life of Bees
The Awakening
The Fellowship of the Ring
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Naked Lunch
The Stranger
The Amityville Horror
Audrey Rose
any or all of the Diary of the Wimpy Kid books
any of the Sherlock Holmes
There is a lot of books on your list I'd be willing to read. That was only up to page 6.
Can I call u Rachel?I compared books with you
and from the list,
The namesake
Anna Karenina
Three men in a boat
Casino Royale
Perfume
The three musketeers
a Christmas Carol
Atlas Shrugged
....
and then the list was getting too long :P
Hey Have got an idea.....I have never read any horror, shall we experiment on one of the horror books????
Three Men in a Boat, Casino Royale,
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,
The Three Musketeers, and
Atlas Shrugged
sound good. I'm leery of Anna Karenina. I was to read it but I've heard very mixed reviews. I have some friends that adore it, it's their favorite book and they rave about it. I have other friends that rant about it and loathe it with all their heart, lol. :/
If I'd have to pick the three: Perfume, The Three Musketeers, and (third is hard to pick it's a toss between Casino Royale and Three men in a boat).
what kind of horror books would you be in for? There is haunted houses, ghosts, psychological, zombies, gore, etc. I love horror books.
How about the classic horror, The Shining? Or zombie(ish) Feed or popular culture World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War? We can also do classic horror, like some Poe or Lovecraft.
World War Z ....I have seen it as a movie.....The Shining......looks good...but we need to wait for Saritha as well I guess
There is also YA horror stories. There is a free horror short story at amazon, Papap's Teeth Amazon link to Papap's Teeth
Sakshi, I didn't realize that we are reading The Shining for a whole group read. Is there another horror book you'd like to drive into, oh how about Jaws. Perfect book for summer.
hey...I'm so sorry to be so late....my phone had crashed & I couldn't get it repaired till now....sry...
I have read one of Dean Koontz book. It was okay. I know lots of my friends have read his books in the past. I will ask them what book they recommend.
I have read Dean Koontz Strangers....t was good in the starting....but i was a bit disappointed at the endcould have been better with the ending....coz of all the hype built throughout
...:P
@Rachel...the comment that I wrote about Dean Koontz's Strangers.....I started writing down how i feel about it....it looked more like a review :)
okay then we are all in for "Intensity"yayieee...Rachel would you update the thread name please???
Am super excited for this one!!!!
^_^
Yes, Sakshi I will change our name. Also, I will get the book and start reading. I am going to finish up a book today.
The first time I did a buddy read was last month with Ruchi. We just read at our own speed. I tend to like to have a set time frame to have use have a discussion about. Do you want to have set discussion times like the first week we only chat about 25%, second week 50%, third week 75%, fourth week finish the book, or read as we go and chat about it? It's up to the both of you. I'm fairly easy going about it. I haven't started read the book yet, I had to finished up a book today. Since we decided against Jaws I figured I'd read it on my own. I just finished it. It was really good. Totally different from the movie. Think of it as a book about relationships with shark attacks in the background. Really interesting book.
As for reading goals for myself when reading books, I have set my book goal for the month, 15 books. That's finish a book every second day. A few authors have contacted me to read their books for reviews. So, some of their books are on my list to read. So I try to read at least half a book a day, but that depends on the size of the book. When it's a big chunky book, those take longer for me to read.
This is my first time doing a buddy read. I'm okay with doing it either way. Its very cool that you've set a proper reading goal Rachel. I just sneak in a book whenever I get the time, but most of the time I'm doing reference reading for lit.
Saritha, thanks. I work for my local school district and this summer the focus is on me. Haha. I call it "Selfish Summer of 2014". I focus so much on the children that I just wanted to really get a lot of me time this summer. Next Monday I start summer school, and will be with some needy children so I need to fuel up on me. ;)I like buddy reads, I've been doing them with the Song of Fire and Ice Series (A Game of Thrones), we are currently on book 4.
Half way through In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. Good book. There is a lot about these guys. Totally different than I thought the book would be like. You really get to see what the lives of these guys was really like.
I'll put it on my 'to read' list, which is growing really long by the way. I just finished dark luminance by E.M McDowell. it's a good book & I liked the pace & the way it progressed.
I just completed Lolita. was a bit disappointed by the author.I know its a bit different type of writing.
but it took me so long to finish the book, that in the end it was a liability to finish.
I guess would have to read it again after some time (Maybe years)
I have always wanted to Lolita. It's on my to read list. I have heard many people love the book, then many people can't stand the book. Not much of a middle ground.
I have started but I'm not far in it yet. How about you?I'm also reading The Shining because it's our group read for the month. (also reading other books as well.)
Have not yet started it :(actually was a bit stuck up with other things.
will start this weekend
for sure :)
Saritha sorry you are sick. That's a major bummer. Not fun. I hope it isn't something really bad. You feeling any better?Sakshi, it's okay, we have a little ways to go, we just might only get this book in this month. Last month we were able to read three books. I don't mind this one book because I have tons of books I'm reading. My family just asked me to have a book discussion with them about The Tortilla Curtain. They want to discuss the topic of immigration. Should be interesting.
Hey Saritha Take care girl....its pre-monsoon and generally not good for health Please get well soon :)
..
Rachel, I know right....having all the books piled up with "To-read" tag
.
.
I cleaned up my book-shelf today. Found almost half-a-dozen books pending to be reviewed. And they are like a responsibility I have to finish....(they top my to-read list now)
have also taken a resolution not to buy any more books until and unless I reduce my "Unread books " stack by half :D
you know what I just go crazy whenever i spot a bookstore and I have to just have to buy at-least a book from there.
So for this new resolution I would try to avoid all bookstores on my way out.
:D
.
.
but yes about our buddy-read
I finally started it today
yayyyyyy
Yeah, books, I have a major to-read list. It's even split into others, as of owned and not read, and recommendations. Then there is all the books I wanted to read, book lists I want to read, and then books I happen to come across. It's never ending. It doesn't help that at our library they have the "Friends of the Library" who sell used library books for 25cents to a $1 a book, depending on style of book. They had the hardcover deal going on, 5 hardcover books for a dollar. It's a huge selection, most of them really good condition. Also, Yay! for starting the book.
I have a kidney stone problem & it decided that a few days back was a good time to act up, the silly thing! But I'm good now & I'm going to give a bit more time for intensity. Even my to-read list is just expanding & the reference reading for lit does not help. But I'm making progress on Intensity :)And yaay Sakshi, u started! :)
Sorry girls it's been a while. I have been working a lot but have been reading our book. It's very different from the style I normally read. I'm still wondering what's going to happen to China. Still at the first 25% of the book.

I will list ten books and my favorite genres in the next post. If anything pops out speak up. Sakshi and Saritha if you can list ten books you'd like to read I'm sure we will be able to pick at least one book out of a list of thirty, or at least I hope. :)
