Werewolves discussion

Kids are back in school, leaves are turning color in northern North America, hurricanes are slamming the southeast, and people are rooting for their favorite college football teams. It must mean Fall will soon be here, the best season for werewolves to hunt those who revel at the harvests.

What shall we read this Fall? Since we have just read a modern werewolf book, let's pick any 20th century werewolf novel we'd sincerely like to read. We'll come back to the 21st century for our next book. Promise.

Since there are few people in our group as of yet, I'd like to allow up to two nominations per member. My two are
1) The Wolfen by Whitley Strieber, and
2) The Howling by Gary Brandner.
Both had reportedly excellent film adaptations come out in 1981 (my junior year of high school), neither of which I will ever watch as I am way too chicken.

I didn't like the movie of The Howling, but that doesn't mean the book wouldn't be good.

Honestly I am leaning towards The Howling. I was looking at a comedy, The Trouble With Werewolves, , but I think it was written in this century, so I am reading it now.

I suppose this group doesn't have enough participation to do a buddy read?

I just could not get into this book. Actually returned it to the library without finishing. Maybe because of the format, not sure though, I just didn't care what was happening.

There is an excellent, in my opinion, were story that we could read sometime. It wasn't on that big list, but some day I will add it. I have been looking for it since I found this group.
City Under the Moon. . I realize it won't work for this reading, but I don't want to forget about it. I think it would make a good read

Loved it! So much so I have read it twice. I admit I didn't care for it that much until more than halfway in when the characters in the story started to interact with friction.

I got to the point where the boy went to stay with his grandparents?? I kept it for months, thinking I would finish. Just about paid the librarian's salary in late fees.

The White Wolf

Of the four books nominated this cycle, I think all four would have made an excellent choice. I have already read Cycle, but would love to read The Howling and especially the interesting choice The White Wolf, which I was unaware of until its nomination. I hope we pick up enough members to maybe do some buddy reads soon.
