I think Swirsky writes relationships well, but my overall reaction was basically: "well, this one's a real bummer"
Wasn't sure at first but it's well written and sucked me in by the end. Nice uplifting imagery for the ending.Still kinda depressing- but then again it is a realistic drowned world so
I'm not a fan of wallowing in angst for my pleasure reading, in this story had no pay off at the end. I have my own real world, thank you very much. The obligatory lip service to climate change didn't impress.

It was interesting to see the impact of a drowned world that is less direct, meaning these characters aren't living in a boat or some high tech city, seems like wherever they did live their lives were more or less unchanged. But at the same time, though the flood was far away, they were still affected by it. The secondary repercussions of a disaster. It was ok, neither loved nor hated it.
I find as the stories progress they become less and less directly water related.
