I personally like the current setup of reading 3-4 Wharton books per year. She only wrote 23 novels/novelettes after all!Fast and Loose, 1938 (written in 1876–1877)
The Touchstone, 1900
The Valley of Decision, 1902
Sanctuary, 1903
The House of Mirth, 1905
Madame de Treymes, 1907
The Fruit of the Tree, 1907
Ethan Frome, 1911
The Reef, 1912
The Custom of the Country, 1913
Bunner Sisters, 1916
Summer, 1917
The Marne, 1918
The Age of Innocence, 1920
The Glimpses of the Moon, 1922
A Son at the Front, 1923
Old New York, 1924
The Mother's Recompense, 1925
Twilight Sleep, 1927
The Children, 1928
Hudson River Bracketed, 1929
The Gods Arrive, 1932
The Buccaneers, 1938
Oops, I'm sorry. I confused what the Thomas Hardy group is doing with this group. Anyway, they read one book per quarter together and that program works well in that group. Every five or six years you have cycled through all the novels. Then I guess it's a choice to stay on after that for another reading.I think that might work well for our group too. For example, we could start with The House of Mirth, Wharton's first commercially successful novel, as this summer's read (June 22 - September 21). I recommend that over starting with Fast and Loose because that novel while interesting has problems. Also, The House of Mirth is the easiest of Wharton's novels to pick up at a used bookstore or library, and is available for download from Gutenberg.org. Fast and Loose is not.

What do others think - would you consider taking part if I set one up?
