Nominations open -- January 2018 group reads: books by your favorite author of 2017
Do you mean authors I read in 2017 even though they might not have published anything in 2017 or authors who had a book published in 2017?
favorite author of anything you read in 2017; not necessarily authors who published in 2017. Sorry.

Fer-de-Lance by Rex Stout
Hard to choose between The Purity of Vengeance by Jussi Adler-Olsen or Birdman by Mo Hayder.Think... think...

Oh, Nero Wolfe! One of my favorites!
I agree - hard to choose. I could nominate an old favorite Tony Hillerman, but I'm going with authors who delighted me with 1930's Hollywood, Renee Patrick, a husband and wife team. I nominate Design for Dying, the first in the Edith Head/Lillian Frost mysteries.
Linda wrote: "How about The Rooster Bar by John Grisham or Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King."You'll have to pick one, Linda... :0)

And since I enjoyed his The Book of Forgotten Authors so much this year, I'm going to nominate Christopher Fowler's Full Dark House, the first in his Bryant and May series.

The books are so much fun. And when you have a crime-fighting duo named after a brand of matches, well, that's a clever author!

How about making a choice between the two? We can only nominate one book.

I nominate Crooked House by Agatha Christie ... read it again after many years, definitely my favourite read this year.
I nominate Andrew Pessin's The Irrationalist. Did Rene Descartes die of natural causes or was he killed? You may think this is a problem only of interest to philosophy majors, but in Andrew Pessin's hands it is a fascinating murder mystery and like all good mysteries, the author metes out important details in a manner that keeps the reader turning the pages. In addition to telling a good story, Pessin has so mastered the details of the world Descartes inhabited that the reader never feels confused or lost. Check out the reviews to see if others don't agree.

I would like to nominate The Woman on The Orient Express by Lindsay Jayne Ashford, it does have Christie in it but she's not the author hehe does this count lol also its fabulous.
Benjamin Black (Actually John Banville, the Irish writer). As to all-time favorite? Why, of course Edgar Allan Poe, Murder in the Rue Morgue, the novella that started the whole thing, the Sherlock Holmes story avant le mot.
Even though I read this recently, it's so excellent, so noir in every way.Sins of the Fathers by Lawrence Block, first of the Matthew Scudder series. ( I would nominate his masterpiece, "8 Million Ways to Die", but that's number 5 in the series)
The Way To Dusty Death by Alistair Maclean...My Nomination as above.
If we are allowed to nominate two books, the second choice will be The Tightrope Men by Desmond Bagley.
Thank you.
Enjoy reading!

Okay -- I'll finish the summary in message 13 and then for sure we have enough books to go to the poll. In the meantime, please hold off on making any more nominations until I see exactly how many titles we have.
