Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments In 2017, I managed to read 173 books... not counting any of the numerous picture books I read with my toddler. This year I'm going to start including those as well, so we'll see what happens. I'm setting my overall goal at 200, but I've also got some smaller, more specific goals in mind.

Edit 2/23: upping my goal to 300

Edit 9/28: back to 200, what was I thinking? 🤣

Welcome back, Charleen!

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Sooo... maybe I need to up my goal? We'll see. There's no way I'll keep up this pace with the comics.

Maybe I should start reading comincs :)

You should! They are a different style of literature, and they are beautiful, and they engage you in a different way than standard print. (Wow, I just got really excited there, lol!)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments It took a while for me to get used to reading comics, but they are so fun and satisfying. And when my brain refuses to focus on pages full of words, it's nice to still be able to get my story fix in.

I still have a hard time with them. They need to be the right comic in order for me to enjoy! lol

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments Do you have ComiXology Unlimited? I’m thinking about trying it, but can’t find a list of what they have available. I know it’s ‘select titles’ which usually translates into “things I’m not interested in”.

There's a free 30-day trial so you can browse for a month before you decide you want to keep it or not!

message 13: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I haven't tried it, but I know a lot of what they have is first volumes, so you can get a taste of lots of different things, but then have to buy if you want to continue the series. Not a bad business model, really. But I know several readers who subscribed for a month or two and then quit because they already read everything they were interested in.

Well, dang you're killing it already, Charleen!

message 16: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Elyse, I certainly wasn't expecting to read 40 comic collections in the first two weeks of the year! That pace isn't going to continue, and kids' books should slow down as well since I'm not listing repeat readings. Even so, I'm going to see where I am at the end of January and then probably adjust my goal.

Wow, Charleen!!

message 23: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I kinda feel like maybe I should go back to not counting picture books... partly because they are quick and easy numbers, and partly because it's hard to keep track of what I've already listed (when we end up reading the same ones over and over).

Regardless, I'm going to up my goal to 300. If I can figure out a way to keep tracking the little man's books without driving myself crazy, I'll probably end up raising it again.

You already have a shelf for books you read with your son? Then I wouldn't count them here. Since you do read them over and over again and it's hard to keep track of. lol

message 25: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I just took out 40 picture books from my previous posts in this thread and re-numbered everything accordingly. Anyone who's curious about the books we read can keep up over at this shelf.

Between this shelf (where duplicates are more easily avoided) and his 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading log (where re-reading is encouraged), trying to list books here too was a bit too ambitious.

I think whatever and however you want to count is fine :)

Holy Moly girl!!! Wow, 102 books already :)

message 35: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Thanks, Andrea! You do have to realize, though, that all but 18 of those have been comic trades... which is why (1) my overall goal is so high and (2) I have secondary goals listed at the top of my thread.

No matter, that is still awesome :)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Joanne, I do have a few comics I buy monthly at my local shop, but my extensive Comixology TBR is mostly freebies or $.99 sales, and as such tend to be random and/or not very high priority on my reading list. They do get expensive quickly if you don't watch out!

I cancelled my Comixology account, I was getting too overwhelmed. I wishlisted all the comics that were "unlimited" with the account so when I go back, I have them to re"buy." And my goal in the next few months (Hey Dewey's!) is to read the free ones that I got to keep after cancelling!

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments 105. Shadow Tag

Slow week.

message 45: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Joanne, I thought it was really good. I haven't watched the miniseries so don't know how it compares, but the book was a pretty quick read and SO compelling!
