Craig White | 6727 comments good point! as it's a book site,

https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_i...

best 2017 book - 2023: a trilogy

best book read in 2017 - The Illuminatus! Trilogy

best t.v. - 'twin peaks - series 3', 'ash v evil dead - series 2' and probably 'the league of gentlemen - anniversary series'

best movie - didn't watch a single one!

Same problem here Duke, quite honestly I have no idea what I have bought this year. Random CDs just seem to appear in my collection sometimes, quite sure I haven't bought them but, knowing me, I wouldn't write it off.

Do the rest of you keep a record of everything you have bought, and when, or do you just have extraordinary memories?

message 10: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments I don’t remember at all, I just check my orders for the year with all the places I’ve bought from. Usually only eBay, Amazon, Bandcamp, Discogs and occasionally an artist’s website.

message 11: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments i have the perfect method - i only remember to buy the good ones! :)

i used to be able to pick up a record, know where i bought it, how much it cost, and very often (i did work in a record shop) also know the catalogue number, but then i obtained an existence (got a life), and took the cure! :)

message 12: by Fishy_Jim (new)

Fishy_Jim | 1306 comments I keep a list of every album or EP I bought each year, but I don't go as far as recording what date I bought them.

Same here

message 14: by Spiritinblack (new)

Spiritinblack | 132 comments I have all mine on an Access database which allows me to do a report per year. It's mainly for insurance purposes but I don't go as far as what date, price or purchased from (used to but can"t be @rsed now).

I keep a written record of what, where, how much & when...but must confess I've slacked a bit since Polygondwanaland dropped in November...there's just too many variants of it now. Curse my completest bent!

message 16: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22514 comments I keep a record in MS Word of everything I buy with PayPal (which covers eBay, Bandcamp, local record store, and most artists' websites). I do index all my CDs on CD-Trustee (fore-runner of Collectorz.com) which includes date of purchase, source and price, however, even with over 2500 albums indexed to date, I am still way behind - maybe another 500+ to go. Yes, I'm a nerd, but once a librarian, always a librarian.

message 17: by Spacepig (new)

Spacepig Pig | 1473 comments Oh man, you people are so organised! What do you do with all that info?

I couldn't even begin to list what I acquired last year, but so far this year: 1 used CD from Amazon in the post, 2 from my local (OK, Irish) classified ads site (it's brilliant, people have no idea what they are selling, got loads from there), and 1 from Bandcamp getting posted today.
In addition to this, 5 Bandcamp downloads, and confirmation from one of my underground bands that I will be getting a free CD from them just as soon as it's ready to go.

Could be a busy year coming up :-)

Yep, I'm waiting for this to happen to me. I keep no record at all of what I have and my memory is not good! I just order stuff and it arrives, I have no idea what I bought this year without looking at order history on Amazon etc.

Craig White | 6727 comments dumbasses! :)

I have an eidetic memory, which means i'm fully aware of purchasing practically needless replicas!

which is probably worse.

Yeah does take ages i'm at 4500 ish and doesn't include copies done for me or the 400gb on my hard drive (no idea whats on there). Luckily I've not bought same album twice unless intended (cue for me now to buy 1).

At least zon flag up when you've previously bought an album/item; the problem is that HMV, ebay and the rest don't and of course zon can't tell you if you bought it elsewhere. Emails can be checked .......... until the hard disc gets fried and you do have to clear them once in a decade or so ......

message 27: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22514 comments Back in the Zon days there was a thread on the US groups "What Were The Last Five Albums You Bought" and the UK groups had a "What Were The Last Three Albums You Bought". I contributed to both and when we also had a search facility (remember that???), it was useful to be able to look back on what you had bought and when.

Many of my purchases throughout 2017 were pre orders, so needed to keep a record of what I bought, so to check that I got it, in the end! Some of the pre orders didn't get sent out months later after putting in an order.

I've been trying to locate at least two discs for a few years now! 😱 they're not in your racks by any chance, David?

Martin O' | 2196 comments Recently came across this oddity which has grown on me:
The Subtle Movements Of The Entropy Engine ~ The Trinity Project. Its a few years since it was originally released but suitably quirky for my taste.

theDuke | 6542 comments An album i'm looking forward to getting soon, is The Fire Tapes - Phantoms. This debut album was released in 2013, but the band broke up for good shortly afterwards. Very dreamy, this was only ever released in tiny numbers..about 100 copies all told. The one manned label that produced it Warhen Records...managed to source me a copy from the bass player, who now plays in a band called BIG AIR, fortunately had a couple left knocking about. Best of all..only cost me $10 shipped from Virginia! There is one other copy remaining on the site, thanks to me! Check it out, cos it'll never be reissued.

https://warhenrecords.bandcamp.com/al...

From the same label, I also picked up a Zack Mexico album, kinda low key psyche album, country rockers Dexateens - Teenage Hallelujah LP (check out the title track!), and a couple of singles from local artists performing in Charlottesville Virginia.

Very much a small potatoes operation....but non-the-less, has some good stuff on there, for reasonable prices.

Val H. | 22514 comments So far in 2018 I've only bought (pre-ordered) two albums.

Josh Hedley's Mr. Jukebox (released April 19)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mr-Jukebox-J...

and Marlon Williams' Make Way for Love (out Feb 15)
https://marlonwilliams.bandcamp.com/a...

Back in December I bought the download of Tammy Haider's album The One because there was no hard copy. However, lovely lass that she is, she sent me an email last week saying CDs were now available and if I wanted one, she'd send one for free. Arrived yesterday. Thanks Tammy!

Martin O' | 2196 comments Kossoff - Blue Soul

Paul Kossoff with a selection of songs recorded with various artists, some well known and some rare delights. Free's live version of Crossroads puts Cream's version well in the shade. As white blue players go they didn't come any better than this dude.
I've also been exploring female blues players, Deborah Coleman, Ana Popovic and most recently Sue Foley who reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
