New book coming!!!
https://www.stephenking.com/library/n...
Synopsis:

An unspeakable crime. A confounding investigation. At a time when the King brand has never been stronger, he has delivered one of his most unsettling and compulsively readable stories.

An eleven-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

As the investigation expands and horrifying answers begin to emerge, King’s propulsive story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

Coming May 22, 2018.

Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments That’s creepy because about an hour ago I was wondering if this would be the June group read.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments Lets hope so. I can't wait.

Jerri (jeanne25) | 60 comments Looking forward to a new King that isn't a collaboration.

It will be the group read. We are going to read in chronological order but when there's a new book we'll squeeze that one in and then return to the chronological order. :)

Me too! I like him so much better alone.

message 7: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 148 comments Funny choice of name. Tommy Maitland (obviously the perp's brother) is the Mike Meyers alter-ego that hosts The Gong Show.

Erin (ems84) | 2681 comments Sounds good, I'm looking forward to its release.

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments Looks like SK is going down the murder crime fiction road with John Dann Macdonald and Travis McGee... let’s see how he does..: I’m in just let me know when...

mrbooks | 1469 comments I hear you, I don't think it matters what he writes now with his skill and experience he is apt to do a good job on it.

Summer (paradisecity) | 360 comments I’m excited about this one!

message 12: by Julie (new)

Julie Ciotola Sounds good, following a detective/investigative type narrative just like the Mr. Mercedes trilogy. Exciting!

Tim Gunter | 120 comments This one looks like it should be interesting, looking forward to a new King book, since I ended up passing so far on the last one.

Book Nerd (book_nerd_1) | 94 comments I haven't gotten around to several of his latest books but it seems like he's getting really into writing detective novels lately.

message 15: by Mike (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mike Marsbergen (mikemarsbergen) | 37 comments It sounds like it'll be great. Hope it's better than Sleeping Beauties and End of Watch.

Kandice | 4388 comments Mike wrote: "It sounds like it'll be great. Hope it's better than Sleeping Beauties and End of Watch."

I didn't love Sleeping Beauties, but did enjoy End of Watch. At least he's writing this one on his own, unlike SB and Gwendy's Button Box.

The Angry Lawn Gnome (mostlyharmlessreviews) Apparently WalMart is screwing up and putting the book on the shelves early. There's a of thread on reddit's /r/StephenKing forum with pictures. See here. Also, this person got it in the mail today.

Marc-Antoine | 312 comments I got it from Walmart, posted on Reddit. Now I’m rushing through Insomnia to get to it. I might just have to put Insomnia aside...

Matt | 193 comments I've got mine pre-ordered from Indigo. Really looking forward to Tuesday (even though it's laundry day 😖).

Kandice | 4388 comments Walmart, Tesco, a few Barnes & Nobles and some Kroger stores all put it out early. Not mine, though, because believe me, I checked!@!!!

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments I’ll probably won’t get mine till Father’s Day so let me know how IT is...;

ElleEm | 260 comments Michael wrote: "I wonder whether it will turn out to be an excerpt."

I was wondering that myself. I haven't read it yet, have you?

Kandice | 4388 comments ElleEm wrote: "Has anyone read Laurie? He released it for free on his website, saying it was a warm-up for The Outsider. You can get it here: Laurie"

I posted the link in the short story thread.

The dedication to Vixen in the back was to Tabby's Corgi that died earlier this year. Sad and sweet.

Latasha (latasha513) | 434 comments so we definitely are reading this in June?

Latasha (latasha513) | 434 comments Matt wrote: "I've got mine pre-ordered from Indigo. Really looking forward to Tuesday (even though it's laundry day 😖)."

Laundry day is a very dangerous day.

(I really, really hope you had Rocko in Canada. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106115/...)

Just finished reading it. It's pretty good, worth the read.

Sadly, no Rocko in Canada that I can remember. Then again, I’m not much of a TV person.

My shift ends at 4 tomorrow, should be at the bookstore by 5;30. First load at 6, I’ll be reading The Outsider by 6:30. Not that I count down the time for a new SK book or anything

Jacob | 8 comments I've literally just got back from picking up my copy from Waterstones. I couldn't be more excited to start reading!

Mig | readwithmig (readwithmig) | 7 comments Has anyone read “Laurie”?
He said it’s a warm-up for The Outsider.

Mig | readwithmig (readwithmig) | 7 comments I’m sure if I’m gonna join The Outsider read along in June, mainly bc I haven’t finished the Billy Hodge’s Trilogy yet and I’m concerned about the probable major spoiler in there.

Marc-Antoine | 312 comments I’m at page 121. It has been the feeling of an Agatha Christie mystery up to now, with a King flavour of course. It’s great so far.

I read "Laurie" yesterday. I loved it, of course I love just about everything that he has written.

Bo'shiyo Vishmns | 14 comments Have read it yesterday. I like Laurie but I have no idea how this story prepares me for The Outsider.

ElleEm | 260 comments Jay wrote: "Have read it yesterday. I like Laurie but I have no idea how this story prepares me for The Outsider."

I don't think it is meant to prepare, only to get you excited for another King story. I will be very surprised if it actually has anything to do with The Outsider.

Erin (ems84) | 2681 comments I'm trying to think, did he release a short story before Sleeping Beauties came out?

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments I just got my copy in The mail

ElleEm | 260 comments Linda wrote: "I just got my copy in The mail"

Awesome! I'm still waiting on mine but that's okay. I still haven't read Sleeping Beauties. I'm trying to make them last, I guess.

Jerri (jeanne25) | 60 comments My book shows delivered today but I am at work and can't wait so I bought the audio to get started on. So far - very good! The narrator - Will Patton - is excellent.

The Angry Lawn Gnome (mostlyharmlessreviews) I figured I'd be on the the outside looking in (pun not intended) on this thread, since I'm poor and all my reading material comes from the library these days.

Much to my shock, the copy I reserved at the library came in. I should go buy a lottery ticket. Just need to finish Red Sister then I'll start this.

Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments I’m copy is “out for delivery” now.

message 42: by Jacob (new) - added it

Jacob | 8 comments Its certainly another page turner so far. I've just had to put it down for the night, despite not wanting too. I recently read Revival during the course of one night and it seriously messed me up, I could see this doing the same. I've had chills in a few places while reading!

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments For some reason, I preordered the audiobook... probably should have gone for the e-book. My audios are backed up. Anyway, just downloaded it today. I'll shoot for a June listen. Right now still going through Song of Susannah and Night Shift.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments I received my copy yesterday.

Kandice | 4388 comments I pre-ordered so received my copy yesterday. I didn't get home until midnight and had to be at work at 7, so only read about 30 pages before bed. I can't wait to really dig in when I get home.

Jerri (jeanne25) | 60 comments About 40% into the book and loving it. Being from Oklahoma, I don't notice many stories based here. Although Flint City is a fictional town, I am enjoying that King took the time to know enough about Oklahoma to correctly reference many things. Makes it a nice bonus.

message 48: by Matt (new) - rated it 5 stars

Matt | 193 comments I’ve just barely started, wanted to finish Night Shift first. One his more gruesome scenes right near the beginning.

message 49: by M. (last edited May 25, 2018 12:31AM) (new)

M. (elder_prince) | 78 comments I'm currently 100 pages into it. The first chapter reminds me of the cop interrogation sequence in 'It'. Very good so far. The murder that is described in the story is in fact very disturbing. I don't want to say more to avoid spoilers.

Kandice | 4388 comments I am almost halfway and one of the things that is making this such a good read for me is King's restraint. He does not describe the crime and violation in full, gory detail, but drops words and phrases that allow our minds to fill in the blanks. Because of the little he gives us, my mind filled in those blanks in a very, very, very disturbing way. Perhaps more so than if King had used his usual microscopic detail!
