demicaractere I've only ever read YA books, besides the classics, but I want to start reading clean novels written for an adult audience. I'm looking for some recommendations on where to start.

I just started reading Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden and while I am interested in the storyline, the writing style isn't my favorite. It's very dry and descriptive and LONG, with very little dialogue. I'm going to keep reading but I don't know how I'll feel by the end.

I also started Amy Snow by Tracy Rees. I've only read the first chapter (about 10 pages) but I already like this style much better. It has a more familiar feel to me and more of a fast pace.

Does anyone have any more books I could look at?

My favorite genres are romance, suspense, mystery, historical-fiction, and ghost stories, but I'm really up to look at anything as long as it's clean and it holds my interest.

Kitty Foth-Regner | 2 comments Hello, Demetria, If you're interested in intergenerational fiction, you might like my new novel, The Song of Sadie Sparrow.

This story's protagonists are three women whose lives intersect in a warm and engaging nursing home called The Hickories. At ages 32, 56 and 86, they represent different generations. They have experienced different sorrows and entertain different hopes. They even adhere to different worldviews, from devoutly Christian to unapologetically atheist. Yet over the course of a single year, they forge unlikely bonds that impact each other’s lives in the here and now—and perhaps for all eternity.

One reviewer described it this way: "A beautifully written story of friendship set against the backdrop of life’s twilight years, The Song of Sadie Sparrow explores contrasting views of purpose and pardon, life and afterlife—and faith’s role in shaping those views, now and forevermore."

If you want to read an excerpt, you'll find one on Amazon, or here on my web site: https://www.everlastingplace.com/sadi...

I hope you find just the books you're looking for!

I would invite you to check out my books at www.quicksilvernovels.com. All of my books are clean reads but they have romance, action, and adventure. If you read and review one of the books, send me a link to the review at diane.quicksilvernovel@gmail.com and I will send you a free book in the same series.

Ken | 59 comments For romance, what about something by Jane Austen? Wish You Well, by David Baldacci is an excellent tale of family struggle, set in Appalachia, but several others of his books wouldn't meet your criteria. Tony Hillerman wrote a good mystery series, set in the Navajo Nation, and best if read in order. You might like Alexander McCall-Smith's No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, set in Botswana, Africa (his other series probably won't fit your criteria). I enjoyed The Last Plea Bargain, a legal thriller by Christian author Randy Singer. James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small series is also outstanding.

B (deathandchocolate) | 37 comments I was going to start a new thread but I'm glad I looked here first, because I had the exact same question. :)

I'm looking to start reading adult fiction, but there's just so much I don't know where to start!

I'm mostly interested in magic, fantasy, science fiction (not outer space, though), and steampunk. Some of my favorite adult novels are Soulless by Gail Carriger (although it's not as clean as I would like) and Chalice by Robin McKinley. I actually just read Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho and that was pretty good too. Novels set in contemporary times are okay, as long as the premise is rooted in fantasy.

I really haven't explored adult fiction very much, so I wouldn't mind hearing some of the classic suggestions for these genres. Anyone have any favorites they would recommend? Thanks!

Sandy (sngrant) | 83 comments Brandon Sanderson is a great author. He writes fantasy/sci fi stuff all clean. I read Elantris and it is great even though that is not my genre of choice. My son has loved all his books and has read them all I think.
