I read this book a year ago and, from my buddies, only I disliked it. Let's see how the discussion goes here. I am happy to participate.
Oooh! This has been on my TBR list for a year or two! :D Looking forward to finally getting to read it.
I will join the listening. New Audible credit will arrive in the 28th so that's perfect. I don't know much about the book yet, so I will start without any expectations. :)
YES! I got this on Audible a LONG time ago and now I will finally "read" it- been looking forward to this one. --Jen from Quebec :0)
*UPDATE* I am now 2 hours into '14'...I have it on Audible ONLY-- no text version of this one...I wish I could read it at my own speed, as it IS a slow burn so far---not a complaint, just a thought.
This story feels more like a 'Scooby Doo Mystery' atm than it does a story from the *horror* genre, so I am curious to see how this is all going to come together. I AM having fun reading it, however, and the narration for this one is EXCELLENT. The dude even does about 6 different nationalities/accents and does them well. Bonus! --Jen from Quebec :0)
I just started and heard the first half hour. It's interesting so far :)I will need a bit longer to get through the audio, because I have to get used to listening to English, which I normally don't do. But the narrator is good and it works, I just have to concentrate on it a bit more than with other audiobooks. So please have patience ;)
I am 20% in now and I like it so far. I really want to know what is going on there and there were actually some chapters which made me laugh. Also (view spoiler)
I found the book in general fun to read. But I could have spent my time of something else. I didn't like all the fantasy-related stuff. It was all obvious. I lost interest around chapter 30-35, but I continued thinking there was going to be a twist or some surprise. But it was not hard at all to see how it was going to end and what the secret was, so at the end I just thought:"eh! That was it?!"
I'm 21% in and I am enjoying it. It isn't a book I would have ordinarily read but I have only listened to maybe one audiobook before and I was determined to see if I still disliked them as much as I thought and I don't! I am finding it really easy to listen to and keep track of the story. I never realised how much under-utilised reading time I had each day: walking to/from work, when I'm cleaning...it is a whole new world 😂
I loved this book much more than I thought I would and really inspired to read more of Clines work. I love the sequel, not sequel to this one, The Fold. If only I could praise as high his other work, Paradox Bound...
Jason - I am glad you enjoyed it so much! I have no idea where the story is going which is keeping it exciting for me
I also have listened to it a few months back. I found the book fun and entertaining. The characters were really well written and interesting, especially the narration of them. ( Jennifer Lynn said it best, dude does about 6 different nationalities/accents and does them well.) (Thx Jen.) Their banter back and forth was funny and actually how real people talk, no cringy, annoying dialogue here. The mystery revealed itself well and kept me wanting to know more. I ultimately enjoyed it. I also enjoyed The Fold and am looking forward to Paradox Bound.
I’m a quarter of the way in and I have to admit I’m totally loving this book so far. I’m enjoying the whole mystery and also the really fun cast of characters that populate the building. I especially love how they are all very ordinary folks who have just the right sets of personal interests and skill to start putting all the details on the building together. I’m super exited for the next three fourth. lol
I am almost halfway through and I am so keen to see where this is going. As I said before, I never listen to audio books but I am glad I jumped into this one as the suspense is keeping me interested.

I agree with both of you. The characters are just real and I like them very much. The dialogue isn't too forced in this book, but really believable. Well done.
I have still 3h to hear but I like how this goes in a (view spoiler)
I only have 2 hours left to go on my Audible and I must say that I have enjoyed this book a LOT even though it is more mystery + comedy than horror, IMO...--Jen from Quebec :0)
This book has been on my TBR list for a while. I really, REALLY enjoyed it! The mystery of the building was so much fun. I could not get enough. Every time a new clue was revealed, I had to know more. It was hard to put it down. I also really liked the characters. Even the bad guys were a lot of fun. And the way they talked to each other felt really natural. I thought the narrator did an amazing job. He put so much of the characters personality in the words they spoke and each character had a clearly different voice and cadence. I also felt like it wasn't straight up horror, more mystery with a sprinkle of scifi maybe? I liked this book so much, as soon as I was done with it, I went and bought the audio of The Fold by the same author and narrator. :D
