Our April group read theme is Mission Impossible. In other words, a book where the character(s) are sent on a difficult mission that is considered impossible, requires a unique set of skills in order to succeed, or is essentially a suicide mission.

Please make a nomination selection that meets the qualifications based on this theme and the other general guidelines of the group.

(Please recall that we don't vote for books we've already read--There's a link below to check our list of previous group reads).

Here are the other considerations:

1. One nomination per group member. The books must be nominated with a Goodreads link by clicking on 'add book/author'. If a book does not have a Goodreads link, it will not be added to the poll.
2. Books need to be readily available, ie, in print (able to buy new or in ebook format).
3. Books should have some degree of action/adventure content.
4. Past group reads are not eligible to be nominated again. The past group discussions remain open for members to comment. You may see the list of past reads here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

5. Books must be either standalone or first in a series (or they may be later in a series if constructed to be read as a standalone).

Please feel free to include a blurb for the book so others know a little about the book, along with your Goodreads book link.

The poll will post on 3/16/18.

Steve Doherty (stevedoherty) | 4 comments I'll nominate Gold Dominion.

World War II has finally ended, but for Jonathan Preston—the US Army’s most successful covert operative—a new mission is just beginning. Preston must lead a team of American intelligence agents to find several hundred thousand tons of gold, precious gems, and antiquities that were plundered from invaded Asian countries by the Japanese during the war.

International business espionage meets high-stakes family drama in this global thriller. Duncan Luke is no stranger to impossible situations. A high-priced lawyer and expert in business intelligence, he knows how to extricate his clients from sticky situations while saving--or making--them millions. To be the best, he's sacrificed everything, including his family, but now he wants out. He's quitting his lucrative practice for academia and time with his autistic son, Sam. But his wife isn't on board and files for divorce, forcing him to fight for custody. With mounting legal bills, the only way to keep his son is to take on one last client. He plans to do the job, get out and get home to Sam, but his client, Ghislaine Bingham, has other ideas. Ghislaine has a crisis of her own. Her cheating husband died and left her in a turf war with her stepson over the family business, Bingham Investment Group. She stands to lose more than money. Her reputation and life's work are tied up in the company. Her self-worth is on the line and only Duncan has the expertise to see her to victory. When Duncan and Ghislaine meet, sparks fly, but neither can walk away. Ghislaine sends Duncan to Tokyo to convince his old friend, Taro Takayama, that Ghislaine is the best person to run Bingham. But Taka first needs Duncan to fix his Panama problems. Duncan races to Panama where he is kidnapped and beaten, stumbles into a sex-trafficking ring and rescues a beautiful woman. Unaware of the danger in Panama City and frustrated by Duncan's unorthodox ideas, Ghislaine threatens to pull him off the job. From L.A.'s towering palms and Tokyo's steamy noodle bars to London high-finance and Panamanian corruption, BIG:BEGINNINGS is a thrilling, non-stop ride around the globe. As Duncan flies across time zones doing battle for Ghislaine, risking his life and reputation, Sam slips further away. Duncan must finish the job to get Sam back, but time is running out.

I will nominate Black Site (Delta Force, #1) by Dalton Fury Black Site

Meet Kolt Raynor. A Delta Force operator and one-time American hero, he is still trying to make sense of his life ”and duty” after a secret mission gone bad. Three years ago, in the mountains of Pakistan, Raynor made a split-second decision to disobey orders ”one that got some of his teammates killed and the rest captured. Now he's been given a second chance to do right by his country, his men, and himself. But Raynor's shot at redemption comes at a price.

A shadowy group of former colleagues has asked Raynor to return, alone, to Pakistan's badlands. His assignment seems clear: find his missing men and bring them home. What Raynor never expected was to uncover a sinister al Qaeda plot to capture a Black Site--a secret U.S. prison--and destabilize the region. Meanwhile, a ruthless, unknown enemy is on his trail…and he will stop at nothing to make sure that Raynor's mission is not accomplished.

We have a tie between Where Eagles Dare and Target Omega, so we'll read Target Omega in April and Where Eagles Dare in May. Thanks for voting!

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I'm getting a head start on Where Eagles Dare. I'm not sure if I'll jump in on the other one or not...maybe if I find a used copy.
