Since we have a thread for non-binary characters (#11) here we're looking for a literary trans person who identifies as either male or female.

Iamshadow | 334 comments Dreadnought and Sovereign! I love Danny so much. There's so much toughness in her, and I admire that.

Kaje Harper | 17398 comments Dreadnought is great.

I want to mention Spy Stuff - one of my favorites (and also by a trans author)

Rez Delnava (rez_delnava) The Art of Being Normal and If I Was Your Girl

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) | 69 comments Anna-Marie McLemore's When the Moon Was Ours really impressed me recently - her husband is trans and it's based on his experiences.

I really loved that book. It's the best of magical realism, with lush descriptions, buckets of atmosphere and equal parts spooky and whimsy.

Definitely - her prose style is incredible.

It doesn't have a trans character (though there is a genderqueer character, and plenty of other LGBT rep), but I really liked Wild Beauty too.

Both that and The Weight of Feathers are on my to-read list, just purely because of how much I liked When the Moon Was Ours.

She has another book coming out this year, too - Blanca & Roja

Atlas | 1 comments Felix Ever After is one of my favorite books of all time!

message 12: by Clarissa (new)

Clarissa (clariann) | 30 comments these sound like great recommendations even more on my to-read list!

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 7 comments The Witch King (fantasy)
The Passing Playbook (realistic, sports)

I really enjoyed both of these last year!

I'd missed The Passing Playbook - I'll add that to my TBRs

Clarissa (clariann) | 30 comments Bad of me, but just remembered now a book by a friend I met here on goodreads which deserves more readers and love, Fairywing by D.H. Torkavian:

EzraCrow | 1 comments Probably The Sunbearer Trials. It's one of my favorites!

message 17: by Mere (new)

Mere Rain | 87 comments Euphoria Kids was the happiest trans story I've read so far.

message 18: by finn (new)

finn (frogadventures) | 3 comments Dear Mothman by Robin Gow is great! It just came out this month. It’s a middle grade novel in verse about a young trans boy who is coping with his best friend’s recent death by writing letters to his favorite cryptid, mothman.

That's definitely a plus <3

message 20: by BangtonBoy (new)

BangtonBoy | 7 comments All Kinds of Other by James Sie and Beating Heart Baby by Lio Min are both fantastic. Both use the city of Los Angeles as almost another character in their books; the setting is that important. Beating Heart Baby also involves anime fans, East Asian Americans and South East Asian Americans - three more underrepresented groups in literature.

Isha ☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚ | 4 comments i know it’s very basic, but i just read felix ever after and it greatly exceeded my expectations
i’ve heard that hell followed with us and the fae keeper are also good though

KateLynn Luzier While I urge any and all interested in reading to observe the content warnings, a queer horror book that I love in the YA category is Hell Followed With Us

Literally one of my favorite books! The main character is trans and his perspective on the queer community he encounters and the dystopian world they live in is really relatable.

That sounds cool. Horror is not my jam, but it's underrepresented in queer YA, so yay for a good one.
