I've read the Vain Shadow back in 2015, but i would love to discuss with you.

A few days late but I’ve started! Too many books, too little time, and I’ve started The Thorn Birds, which is proving amazing...

Coming back to this one, it has an interesting narration, going into everyone’s heads.

I've just started this one, too. Agree about the narration, the way you get to understand what they are thinking, which can be completely different to what they are saying.

This book feels as though it is set earlier than when it was written, though I'm not sure it's meant to. They still have servants, and an estate, which I feel would have been a rarity by then, but Tony is sneering at the funeral for being so middle class.
I do hope Joanna, on having her eyes ened, will decide to leave Tony.

Hello dear Tania, yes i thought the same when i read it too.
The family must of been very rich to have such a large estate with staff too.
I do also feel sorry for Joanna
Women in those days seemed forced to stay in unhappy marriages and it was a disgrace if divorce was even thought of.
