Adelaide had somehow managed to find herself in the physical therapy room, yet she didn't comprehend how she got their. She had only been at this place for a few hours, and yet it felt like eternity. If she had known their were so many people she would have never agreed to come. Her mind wandered to her so called 'family' and couldn't help but wonder if they missed her. It was a stupid, idiotic, and useless question that she already knew the answer too- no. The fresh bruises on her skin seemed to brighten against her complexion as if reminding her why she had to leave home in the first place. Addy's left hand ran through her hair, flinching ever so slightly as her hand hit the large broken and bruised wound that was sitting right at her hair line. She still couldn't wrap her mind around this whole thing- werewolfs? The next thing she would know, they would tell her vampires and ghosts were real as well. She had yet to see a man turn into a wolf, so perhaps this was all a bad dream. Maybe she had been hit too hard and had slipped into a coma.
Adelaide shook the thought from her mind and walked over to one the bed like things, tracing her hand over the smooth wood finish. It was silent in the room, with no one else their, and she could finally calm herself down. "This isn't real, it's all one big messed up dream" she said, each word trying to convice Addy that this wasn't real. She didn't want this to be real.
It sucked, really, that Daniel had to go to physical therapy sessions three times a week. But, he supposed, that was what he signed up for when he became a marine. It was an honor to serve the country, and a minor injury such as his own was a small price to pay. Becoming a wolf shifter, however, was not something that he'd signed up for. But it wasn't like he could do anything about it now. Just physical therapy.
He'd just entered the physical therapy room when he received a text message from his PT:Sorry, an emergency came up. Same time tomorrow. Sorry again.
So really, he'd walked over here for nothing. It was okay, though; he told himself. Even physical therapists had their own problems, and hopefully he'd work out whatever happened. And hopefully it wasn't too bad. He didn't particularly want to start with a different physical therapist.
He looked up, hearing a quiet voice. A girl - woman, he corrected in his head - was talking to herself. Too quiet for Daniel to really hear. Was she new? He was pretty sure he'd never seen her before. "Are you a new PT?" he asked - because if she wasn't a PT, she was probably lost.
Adelaide jumped at the sound of a persons voice. When she jumped, her hip connected with the side of the table, sending it falling over. "Ah shoot" she hissed, clamping her hand over her hip as the brief moment of pain washed over her. Her eyes wandered to a pair of legs, which connected to a torso, then a stomach and chest, and finally she rested her eyes on the male's face. "What?" she was so nervous she could barely understand what he was seeing. "I mean no, I'm the head nurse" she explained quickly, adverting her eyes to the floor before ducking down and dragging the table back to it's proper position.
"Are you one of those marines- the wolfy-people-things?" she slowly questioned, gaining enough nerves to ask the question with only a slight note of worry in her voice. She didn't enjoy speaking to strangers, well, actually, she didn't enjoy speaking to anyone. Curse her stupid shyness.
"A nurse," Daniel repeated. "That's nice. My mother's a nurse, back at a hospital near my home," he added. The poor girl - she was either painfully shy, or terribly nervous. Or both. Daniel wasn't quite sure. And while he wasn't the best person to make people feel comfortable and at ease, he also hoped he wasn't a terrifying human being or anything like that.
"Wolfy-people-things?" Daniel raised an eyebrow before chuckling. "Yes, I guess. They call us wolf shifters, but I'm not so sure that that's a very scientific term, either. But yes. I'm part of the Alpha Unit." And usually I really wish I could just be a normal marine. And human. Human would be nice.
"Hopefully this isn't an offensive question, and please do correct me if I'm wrong," he continued, "but are you new here?" He paused before adding, "Because I don't think I've seen you around the medical clinic before." Not to mention that she didn't seem to be very used to working at the Alpha Unit.
"Wolf-Shifters. Right." she shook her head slightly, her body rigid with nerves. She let out a sigh, shutting ehr eyes for a moment in annoyance with herself. "Yea, I just got here about- 4?- hours ago. I can't really be certain though since they took my phone, and then broke it." she smiled awkwardley. "I'm Adelaide by the way. Not that you need to know my name or anything, it really doesn't matter if you know my name" she stuttered, her cheeks turning pink with embaressment. Smooth Addy, real smooth she scolded herself mentally for being so nervous and awkward.
A curious look gathered on her face and she glanced at him, raking him up and down as if trying to figure out if he was real. "This is real right? I mean, 25% of people suffer from nervous break downs and they say that they have really vivid dreams, so I was just wondering- hoping actually- that this is all just one big dream...." she suddenly blurted, her fingers crossed in hope that this was all one big nervous dream.
((I delted the post by accident, so I'm reposting
((No problem :) ))
Damn. She was really new, then. And Daniel understood that it could be a shock - hey, Dan, you're a wolf shifter now! - and, well... because it was a completely confidential job, then workers and members lost a lot of the personal liberties that they were used to. Including a phone that wasn't monitored. "It happens," he said, and it probably sounded a lot more insensitive than he meant, but still. It wasn't just a job, it was going to become her life.
"Welcome to the team, then, Adelaide," he said, smiling. "I'm Daniel. One of those 'wolfy-people-things.'" Maybe then things wouldn't be so awkward? Yeah, the bad thing? Daniel wasn't good at telling jokes. He wasn't exactly a laid-back person, and, well... he hoped that she didn't mind that most things came out of his mouth sounding completely serious.
Daniel gave Adelaide a wry smile. "Oh, this is real alright." He paused. "Or," he added, "at least it certainly felt real during the first transformation. And all the ones that followed that. So yeah, I'd wager that this whole situation is a real thing. Sorry about that." And he was sorry - sorry for everyone stuck in this nightmare of a career path. Because really. He didn't sign up to become a werewolf. At least he wasn't a sparkling vampire?
She smiled slightly, finally relaxing. "So, do you have enhanced abilities- faster reflex's, enhanced strength..?" she questioned, the medical curiosity surfacing. She couldn't help the excitement that was growing in her stomach, finally meeting a so called werewolf."Sorry, I understand this might be a tough subject for you. I mean basically your no longer human, everything you stand for must have changed dramatically. And you can't tell your family anything" she seemed oblivious to how her words might affect, an intense curiosity pushing against her mind. "Wow, that was rude. I am so sorry" she looked shocked for a brief moment before flashing a nervous smile.
"May I ask what your doing here anyways?" se figured he must've been looking for someone, or maybe he was lost like her though she doubted that. Perhaps he needed physical therapy, although she couldn't figure out why he would need that if he had enhanced healing ability like a wolf.
Daniel shrugged. "To an extent, I suppose," he said. "But it doesn't fix everything. Hence why I'm here. My recovery time might be longer than the average human's, but I don't just magically wake up all better. And besides," he added, "healing is one thing. Regaining full use is another thing, but you probably knew that already." Because she was a nurse, and, well, you did have to go through some school for that.
Daniel tensed a bit. Calm down, he told himself. She doesn't know. She doesn't understand. "I may occasionally turn into a wolf - that doesn't mean I'm not human," he said flatly. "It's not like I magically lost my sense of morals and ethics. The fact that the Alpha Unit still exists? That says something." And it did - if they were simply animals and nothing else, it wouldn't be able to work as successfully as it did. She didn't mean any harm. "It's fine," he said dismissively. No, it's not.
"Like I said, I'm here because magical wolf powers don't fix everything," he said. "Broke my arm. Bullet in my shoulder. It's healed, but..." he paused. "It doesn't work as well as it should. It was out of use for a while."
Addy could tell her snide comments had some bad affect on him and instantly she felt guilty and awful, a sudden wave of fear washing over her. Her past expirience with any guy becoming angry never ended without violence. "Sorry. I'm really, really, sorry. That was...rude." she bit her lip, a nervous habbit of her's. She took the smallest of steps back, giving her some distance from him, not entirely comfortable with being within arms length of this stranger in a room that was for lack of better words, utterly empty. At the comment about his shoulder she tilted her head, weighing her options. "I'm not a physical therapist or anything, but have you tried heating it? If it's muscle damage, heating it will loosen them which should probably give you a bit more motion." she looked thoughtful before shrugging to herself.
"So, what does the 'Alpha Unit' do exactly? Fight vampires?" she joked, not meaning it at all. She didn't expect him to answer, mainly because it seemed like that information would be secret, but they're wasn't any harm in trying. She tilted her head to the side, shaking her hair slightly as it fell over the fresh wound on her head. If only she could have accelerated healing, it would make her life so much better.
The steps that Adelaide took back weren't left unnoticed by Daniel. It's fine. She didn't mean anything by it. She's new here. "Don't worry about it," he said. "I know it's hard to wrap your head around at first." And you're going to get used to it soon enough - you're going to have to, he added in his head.
"I'm okay with it taking longer. It's what I've always had to do." Daniel paused. "But thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep that in mind." He didn't mention the fact that he liked it because it made him human again. He still could get hurt - like any human could. He was just... furrier than most.
Daniel chuckled. "You're not far off," he said. "That's part of it, anyway. Vampires, witches, shifters," he said casually. "You should probably ask one of the executives about it. I know things from experience, not all the nit-picky facts. If that's what you're going for."
"You know how entirely crazy that sounds right? Ok, wolf shifters is one thing but vampires? This isn't freaking twilight." She was starting to freak out- what the hell had she gotten herself into? All they had told her was that she was working as head nurse on a special marine base where the unti had....unique abilities. "How long have you been in the unit?" She asked, interested in what he had to say.((Sorry it's so short! I'm at the beach and on my phone))
