Invisible Man, Got the Whole World Watching: A Young Black Man's Education by Mychal Denzel SmithFight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
From Jim Crow to Jay-Z: Race, Rap, and the Performance of Masculinity by Miles White
I haven't read any of these, but I hear they all talk about construction of identity (and some with its downward spiral)?
I don't know: tada!
I've heard great things about How Not To Be a Boy by Robert Webb. He's a great comedian in the UK and I've seen quite a bit of promotion of this book that explores his experiences of masculinity.
I was about to suggest Fight Club, but Erin beat me to it. The book presents a satirical view of the toxic masculinity present in society today.
I've read and would love to discuss The Descent of Man by Grayson Perry. I found it really interesting and thought provoking.
ooo i like The Descent of Man by Grayson Perry
How Not To Be a Boy by Robert Webb
From Jim Crow to Jay-Z: Race, Rap, and the Performance of Masculinity by Miles White
so hard to choose.
and more books are being nominated...
So many good suggestions! I'm gonna add The Last American Man by Elizabeth Gilbert and Manhood: How to Be a Better Man-or Just Live with One by Terry Crews. Sorry I don't know how to do those handy book links.
just finished Manhood: How to Be a Better Man-or Just Live with One and i really liked it. it is a memoir but a lot of life lessons and inspiration. some reviews were disappointed by the title. basically Terry shows one how to be a man by his example. the book shows how Terry finally reached manhood and learned how to be a better man.

It was Book of the Week and should still be on the I-player. Very interested.
