It is up a bit early as I was afraid I would forget about it next week. So here is the thread for December's nominations. There is no theme this month. Please make sure that the book is at least 50 years old, was written by a woman and has not been read by the group previously.

Please also indicate if you will be able to lead the discussion if your book should win.

Nominations will be open until October 15.

Jamie Zaccaria I would like to nominate Patience & Sarah by Isabel Miller and published roughly 50 years ago, and I can lead if chosen. The book received the American Library Association's first Gay Book Award in 1971.

Patience & Sarah by Isabel Miller

Set in the nineteenth century, Isabel Miller's classic lesbian novel traces the relationship between Patience White, a painter, and Sarah Dowling, a farmer, whose romantic bond does not sit well with the puritanical New England farming community in which they live. Ultimately, they are forced to make life-changing decisions that depend on their courage and their commitment to one another.

Carol (carolfromnc) | 835 comments I nominate Someone at a Distance by Dorothy Whipple, first published in 1953, and

The Jews' Beech by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. First published in 1842, only 112 pages and marks the transition from romanticism to realism.

I can lead if either is selected.

I listened to this as an audiobook last year. Loved it.
