This book definitely fits the Friendship tag. There are two long-term friendships, both are true friendships between a man and a woman, which I found unusual and refreshing.

Contemporary fiction about an aging author who has become a collector of lost items, as a way of atoning for breaking a promise to his fiancé many years ago. As he nears the end of his life, he leaves his possessions, including the lost items, to his assistant (and friend) and asks her to attempt to return the object to their original owners. In a secondary story, a man and woman are colleagues working in the publishing industry. The two stories are related and eventually converge.

The Keeper of Lost Things is part love story, part ghost story, and part mystery. It is about loss, love, and finding one’s place in the world. While the plot is intriguing, the primary strength of this novel lies in its characters: an attractive gardener, a teen with special needs, an ethereal spirit, adorable pets, and an unlikely long-term friendship. As a bonus, the protagonist-author’s short stories are woven into the narrative. I found it charming, although a suspension of disbelief will be necessary to fully enjoy it.

Recommended to anyone that enjoys an uplifting tale. It would make a great book to take on vacation.

Amy | 13096 comments I thought it was sweet but not stellar. Like it had some charm to it, but to me it was not a not to be missed. What is the phrase for that? A solid three.
