Reading and discussions have begun now for the October Read A Thon!

I am starting with Thomas Hardy by Claire Tomalin. It has been on my tbr for some time, and I just couldn’t get to it; however, this is the day!

I have two book discussions next week (one on Wednesday, one on Thursday), and I have barely started one and I haven't started the other, so those two books are the ones I'm going to focus on first. I have a couple other books I'd like to make progress on or finish this week, so hopefully I'll have time for those also.

I am hoping to finish Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting . I would also like to finish one or both of the ither 2 books I'm reading: The Nightingale and Sleep Smarter: 21 Essential Strategies to Sleep Your Way to A Better Body, Better Health, and Bigger Success .

My lofty goal is to read 10 books during the Read-a-thon! We will see if I can make that. I have some books that friends have loaned me that I want to read and get back to them, a ton of really good-looking ones on my tablet, and of course, the ubiquitous TBR stacks everywhere in my house!

Wow, Nancy! You are settling in for some serious reading. I hope you finish all your books and then some!

I finished reading The Ones We Choose at lunch - read from 75% to the end - so approx. 90pgs - but it def. didn't feel that like that much - author has a really smooth writing style

Nancy that's alot of books! I want to take a speed reading course eventually, so I can get through more books.

Thanks Connie! Making some headway in the Nightingale right now, it's one of the best fiction books I've read in a while. Highly recommend it! I love books/movies from Thomas Hardy, I bet his personal story is fascinating!

Finished my first book, woo hoo! Made a lot of progress in the Nightingale also. Day 1 down and it has been motivational in watching less Netflix and having more book time.

Rachel, I am glad to hear that your book is so interesting. Being engrossed in a wonderful book is the best feeling. Thomas Hardy is one of my favorites, too, and I am learning quite a lot about him. He is an interesting guy whose life certainly influenced his work. I am about halfway through the book. My son is home from university for a couple of days, so I haven’t read as much today; however, our visit has been lovely.

I finshed my first book, Sex,Lies & Lipstick by Kris Calvert. It is the 2nd in a really good romantic suspense series.

We are having a lazy day at my house today( I think), and after breakfast I hope to get some time to read.

I binged on The Accidental Beauty Queen yesterday - started reading it at lunch while waiting to get a new ID card and yeah...finished it up around 10pm - kept doing the just one more chapter until there were no more chapters

Wow everyone reads fast! I feel like I'm a slow reader, but I'm really motivated and thouroughly enjoying my books.
I had extra time today so I read more of the Nightingale, I'm well over half way and expect to finish it tomorrow hopefully. If I also finish my 3rd book this week I'll be so happy lol

Rachel, I have discover that it only matters how much you enjoy your reading, not how fast you read. Don't worry about taking your time. Readers come in all types.

I started reading Morgan's Run last night for a chunkster challenge (it fits challenges in like 3 different groups right now)

3. Ship of Destiny - 237 pages.

Total: 517 pages.

I am getting a lot read, but it isn't always the books I should be reading. Oh, well.

I have one other book I hope to finish or make alot of headway on this week, I will tackle it in the next few days depending on my work schedule.

I have finished two more books: Dead and Ganache and Wedding Cake Crumble. In my opinion, the first one was not as good as the earlier ones in the series, although I have the next one and will eventually get to it. The second one I finished, I LOVED, because I really enjoy that series, and can't wait for more!

I haven’t found just the right book. I think i’ll try reading three books for a bit. I am going with The Masterpiece, The Debutante, and A Life of My Own: A Memoir by Claire Tomalin for now.

I have a big club meeting this afternoon, so my reading will take a hit.
Nancy, I am going to try some of your mysteries since I am always on the lookout for good mysteries. Nothing like a good suspense story to keep you awake turning the pages.

Connie, I have TONS of mystery recommendations for you! I have lots of favorite authors and series that I love to recommend. Of course, having been a librarian (and still doing library work, even in retirement), I've read tons of reviews and my TBR list is endless! I am also fortunate to have a friend who is into the same kind of cozy mysteries, especially the 'foodie' ones, and who is always giving me stacks of them when she is finished. Let me now what type you like and I can give you some good recs!

I finished book #4 today, and it was a cute read: Up the Seine Without a Paddle .

Everyone is continuing to whiz through their books! What a group!

I managed to finish The Masterpiece and Bitter Orange. I enjoyed both but may want to read something nonfiction next. When I started Bitter Orange, I wasn't expecting a mystery, but the plot turned out to be quite interesting with unexpected turns.

My favorite mystery books are by P.D. James. Daphne du Maurier, and Henning Mankell.
I also like Karin Fossum, Jane Harper,Erin Hart, Ian Rankin Colin Dexter, (Inspector Morse), and Agatha Christie.
I love classics and reread mysteries like The Woman in White and The Moonstone as well as du Maurier's books because they are so wonderful.
I love books like The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry and Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. Although they aren't actually mysteries, they have mysteries, secrets, and tension that I find engrossing.

I am certain this is much more information than you need. I thank you for any and all recommendations! I basically read anything! LOL!

The last 2 days are my busiest days of the week, so I didn't get in too much reading.
However I read a bit more of the final book on my list for the week, and I also started an audiobook (I count them personally since my schedule is so crazy that I sit and read much less that I'd like to) called Food: What the Heck Should I Eat? .

Rachel, although I haven't read Food: What the Heck Should I Eat?, I have read and like Eat Fat, Get Thin by Mark Hyman. He has good
advice for healthy eating.

I have finished Tulia: Race, Cocaine, and Corruption in a Small Texas Town by Nate Blakeslee, a nonfiction book. Having lived in Texas, I am drawn to books about the state, and this one is really interesting and well-written.

I agree with Rachel that the end of the week is busier with activities and appointments, making reading a challenge. Hopefully, we can squeeze in a few minutes for ourselves before the end of the read-a-thon.

i finished listening to This is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel - its about a family coming to terms with a child with gender dysphoria - it was both heartbreaking and rejuvenating at the same time

I have finished three more books, although I had much less reading time than I thought, so I probably won't finish my goal of 10. I am just happy with my progress so far, though. The three I just finished:
Pancakes and Corpses - really good
How to Sex Your Snake - not as good as I thought it would be
The Keys to My Diary ~ Fern - also really good
