Vera question

In my mind Aunt Dot was going to have a battle of wills with Wemyss and prevail, a violent scene would occur in which the servants would side with the ladies to allow an escape from a raving lunatic! Or, when the aunt went to the servants door to ask for her luggage she'd be secretely ushered to Lucy's room, whom, seeing the way her aunt had been turned out, would wake up, side up with her and they'd both run out into the night. But the author's ending was the most realistic one, so I can't argue with it.
