I am going to aim to finish 12 books for this challenge. I have also decided that I am not going to plan for all the films and tasks this year. Instead, I am going to focus on the 12 films I am interested in and find books for all the tasks related to them. Normally I would plan for every single task but let's face it, I very rarely read more than the minimum number of books needed to complete the challenge and this year I haven't even been able to do that. So 2019 is going to be the year of a simpler, more focused approach. If I make it to Round 2, I will just plan it out as and when I need to.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments General Rules:

Please read very carefully.

1. You must pick 12 different movies and read 12 books, one from each movie.

Note: Each book is exclusive to one task. You may not repeat tasks. The same rule applies to subsequent rounds.

2. You may not combine books with the Monthly Challenge, but you may combine with monthly group reads, topplers, and buddy reads.

3. The challenge is from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. You must start and complete your books within the year AND within the time that you start the challenge. If you are late starting the challenge, you may not count books prior to your start date. For example, if you start May 1st, you may only count books read between May 1 – Dec 31.

4. Books must be at least 175 pages long.

5. Books may be any format (audiobook, ebook, hardcover/paperback).

➽ In the case of ebooks & audiobooks, use the hardcover edition to determine page length.. If there is no hardcover edition, use the paperback edition. From the book page, select β€œall editions”, then select β€œhardcover”. If no hardcover editions, select β€œpaperback”. If more than one edition, sort by β€œnum ratings” and go with the first listing. If you are still unable to identify, ask for a ruling.

6. Books may be any genre unless specified in a task. In the case of graphic novels or books consisting of a lot of pictures, the text must be equivalent to that of a 175-page book.

7. If a task refers to the title, the subtitle or series title doesn’t count unless specified in a task.

8. If a task refers to the cover, it will be based on the cover of the issue you read. The object required on the cover needs to be prominent on the cover and easily identified.

9. If a tasks specifies a country as a setting, the book should be set in a minimum of 50% of that country unless otherwise specified.

10. Compound words/Imbedded words/Plurals: When a task requires a specific word in the title, it must match the required word as close as possible unless specifically stated in the individual task. It may not be included as a compound word or imbedded in another word. In the situation of plurals, you may add an "s" or "es", but you may not change the word to a plural form if it's different from the required word. Eg - Mice cannot be used as the plural for Mouse.

11. Order of Books read: There is no requirement regarding the order the books are read. Any book read between your starting date and Dec 31 is fair game. You can read badges out of order. For example, if you've read A Wrinkle in Time and counted it for Badge 1, you may read another book that fits another task for that movie and count it for Badge 2 even though you have not finished badge 1. You just need to clearly mark it when you track your books.

You may swap books from one badge to another providing you mark your tracker clearly so that I understand what you are doing. Once your badge is received, those books are not swappable.

12. You will need to start your own reporting thread in this folder to track your progress. There will be a thread set up to report your success in completing the challenge and to request your badge.

To set up your personal thread, Click here. For topic, put your WoF name and any other Title. eg. Orlando Accepts an Oscar. Accept the defaulted folder. Fill out the comment field and save.

A couple of suggestions regarding your personal thread. Link to this thread for easy reference instead of copying all the instructions to your thread. It's lengthy, and you'll want to save space for your own planning and tracking.

Do not copy links to webpages. We discovered last year that not all of the link gets copied. One task linked to the list, "Best Westerns". The copied link truncated some of the address and took peope to "Best Books Ever". The result was that people were reading books from the wrong list and were disappointed when I disallowed them.

It's funny, when I first started thinking about books to fit the tasks, I couldn't think of any book I owned that would fit the manor/abbey task. Then I suddenly had a lightbulb moment and remembered that most of Kate Morton's books are set in places like that so I took a look at the synopsis for The Clockmaker's Daughter and sure enough it fitted.

I really need to get back to the 'Outlander' series too. I read the first three books but haven't gone any further (although I own all the other books in the series). I'm hoping this will give me the push I need to pick them up again. It's a great series but the books are just so long! When I was thinking of strong female characters, Claire was the first one who came to mind.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I want to read your book #8, but my library does not have it. I might have to go to the book store at some point.

Three more books and you will have Badge 1 done. Yay!

Thanks! I might actually get a badge this year! πŸ˜€
